The iCandy Pip gave a luxe first impression, zipped up in a smart dust jacket. It was ready out of the box, the only set up required was unfolding and attaching the bumper bar. The lever was easy to find on the centre of the handlebar but I needed a quick look at the manual to understand the action required. The instructions – which were handily printed on the inside of the box – were clear and easy to follow.

What’s the iCandy Pip like to push and steer?

Lightweight but solid, the Pip stroller zipped along pavements, and was nimble going up and down kerbs, and onto buses and trains. Easily manoeuvrable, it steers well even one-handed and made smooth work of cobbles, uneven pavement and station platforms. Any city dweller knows that getting around sometimes requires speed and fast reactions, but this agile pram was well up to the task, cutting through crowds easily.

The frame is sleek and compact, so moving around tight spaces was stress-free – I could zip in and out of cafes and shops with ease. Because the wheels absorb shock from the ground so well, it was still comfortable to push after a few hours out – an improvement on other lightweight prams I’ve used that left my hands tingling unpleasantly after a few hours use.

How comfortable is the iCandy Pip stroller for your baby?

My daughter settled straight in; she seemed happy sitting on the padded liner and the seat is generously spacious. There’s a five-point harness, so I could clip it together around her. The straps also feature thick padding over the shoulders so she was comfortably secure once buckled in. I found the pram was perfect for naps on the go, reclining deeply to create a comfortable place to sleep for my daughter. The seat is lie-flat so can even be used from newborn age. What's the hood like on the iCandy Pip stroller?

The hood did a good job of protecting from the wind, and provided a good amount of shade – it’s SPF50+ which was especially reassuring to me as we tested this in the middle of a heatwave. However, the shade created by the hood didn’t reach her feet so if you have a tall baby you might need a parasol too (you can buy this as an accessory, £33).

What’s the iCandy Pip fold like?

The fold is intuitive and simple, once learned it was easy to remember. The button is operated with one hand, but I found I needed two hands to fully pull it out of fold. I did on occasion find it a bit fiddly, where maybe I hadn’t got the right grip on the lever, or not used enough force to sweep the pram out of fold. As an added bonus, the bumper bar folds down too so you don’t have to remove it, which is really clever.

The fold is small (L44.5cm x W24cm x H56cm) and the IATA cabin-approval provides reassurance that you can take it straight to the aisle of the plane (although iCandy suggests checking with individual airlines before flying). It’s definitely small enough to stash easily into a car boot or under a restaurant table – and it’s freestanding too, so no awkward balancing required.

How lightweight is the iCandy Pip stroller?

The pushchair is a breezy 7kg, making it light but not flimsy – a compromise found with some of the other ultra compact strollers on the market. To me it feels sturdier than the even lighter YOYO3, and feels easier to manoeuvre than the UPPABaby MINU V3.

Luckily the iCandy Pip boasts the tallest handlebar for a compact pushchair, and that height gives you plenty of space to attach a pram bag to create extra storage. Although the handle is tall, it’s worth noting that it is not adjustable.

Are there any features you really love about the iCandy Pip?

One feature I really appreciated was the extra wide ventilation panel, which wraps around the back of the hood. It gives great visibility, allowing you to easily check on the baby when the hood is down – something I found reassuring in my post parent-facing pushchair era.

One element that could be improved is the handle, which is a spongy kind of foam material – comfortable enough to hold, but other similarly-priced compact prams on the market have leather. The bumper bar is made of a similar material and marks very easily – just unwrapping it left a scratch from my fingernail, and my daughter managed to make a small but permanent dent with her thumb. However, overall the performance of this stroller outweighs these little niggles – if this pushchair had been on the market when we chose our primary pram, it would definitely have been in the running.

Weighing just 6.5kg and measuring W44cm x H53cm x L23.5cm when folded, it is a great option for families who like to travel — whether on long haul flights or local public transport — or who have limited storage space at home.

This new model has an improved fold, integrated leg rest, bigger basket and larger wheels. How easy is it to build the Joolz Aer2 stroller?

The Joolz Aer2 comes fully assembled and ready to roll straight out of the box, so we were able to get out and about with this stroller almost instantly.

The instruction booklet is pleasingly thin, with step-by-step pictures showing how to get the stroller set up and how to operate the one-handed folding process.

The only slightly fiddly bit was getting the harness to the correct size for my son. But once I’d worked out how to use the two straps under the seat to loosen the harness, then it was very easy to tighten it with my son in the seat.

How suitable is the Joolz Aer2 for a baby under 6 months?

With the seat fully reclined, my newborn seemed comfy and supported. The five-point harness is easy to fasten, as you can clip in each strap one at a time, rather than trying to clip it together all at once. The harness also has padded shoulder straps, so I had no worries about it being uncomfortable for my baby.

The brake is also slightly trickier to reach when the seat is fully reclined. So, if you will be using this stroller with a newborn, I would recommend getting the compatible carrycot.

Can the Joolz Aer2 stroller be used in a parent-facing position?

No; only when the carrycot or an infant car seat is attached (car seat adaptors are £44.95). One thing that lets this stroller down is that the seat unit cannot be put in a parent-facing position and it is difficult to see your baby without making frequent stops to peer over the top of the hood. You can catch glimpses of your child through the netted ventilation panels, but I would have preferred to have greater visibility of my baby when they are so young.

How well does the Joolz Aer2 stroller work for a toddler?

My older son (3 years) was able to climb in and out of the stroller easily using the footrest, but he wasn’t able to undo the harness by himself, which is a plus. He found the seat very comfortable and had plenty of leg and head room, even with the hood fully down.

The Joolz Aer2 is very lightweight, which means that even when transporting an older child it is responsive and easy to manoeuvre. I was able to steer it one-handed on busy streets and up and down kerbs.

It is a breeze to get on and off buses, and the four-wheel suspension ensures the rider does so in comfort.

The wheels were one of the areas Joolz improved on this latest iteration of the Aer stroller and I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly it rolled over grass during trips to the park. Even the sand strewn paths in the playground posed no problem for this stroller.

The only minor niggle is that the handlebar height isn’t adjustable, which may be an issue if you are particularly tall or short.

What’s the fold like?

Folding and unfolding the Joolz Aer2 is quick and intuitive. To fold you simply use one hand to push in two buttons in the middle of the handlebar and the pushchair concertinas up.

I did have to use a second hand to click the stroller into its fully folded position, but overall I think this is one of easiest folding mechanism of any stroller I’ve come across.

To unfold you squeeze the two buttons together again and the buggy instantly pops up.

It is possible to fold or unfold the buggy while holding a bag or older child, however not while holding a newborn who needs greater support — but that would be true of all buggies.

Is it easy to carry the Joolz Aer2 stroller?

Once folded, the Joolz Aer2 is very neat and easy to carry over your shoulder using the attached strap. And, as I’ve mentioned before, it’s very lightweight. It is also freestanding, so is easy to pop down to give your shoulder a break.

What's the Joolz Aer2 stroller like on public transport?

I would recommend the Joolz Aer2 to parents without a car, as it is very light, making it easy to tilt onto buses or carry up stairs. This stroller's neat frame fits easily alongside other pushchairs on buses, and fitting through small doorways or narrow aisles isn’t a problem.

When folded, the attached shoulder strap is comfortable to pop over your shoulder for short distances – which is very handy when the lifts are out of order at train stations.

The Joolz Aer2’s small size also makes it a good option if, like us, you’re limited on storage space, as it doesn’t take up much room even in a narrow hallway.

I would certainly use the Joolz Aer2 for travel. Measuring just W44cm x H53cm x L23.5cm when folded, it falls comfortably within the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) maximum recommended cabin baggage size of 45cm x 56cm x 25cm. Its small dimensions when folded also make this stroller ideal for car journeys. We were able to fit it in the boot of our Honda Jazz with a suitcase and a weekend bag, and still had space to spare.

The extendable hood offers both sun protection (UPF 50+) and extra ventilation. However, I found that my newborn’s feet were not shaded by the hood and so did require covering with socks or a muslin.

If you travel regularly, it’s ideal – and small enough to fit in some aircraft overhead lockers, too, although always best to check with your airline before you fly.

How easy is it to fold the Silver Cross Clic 2 pushchair?

Very. To fold and unfold, unclip a lever on the side, push the button on the handle and twist, and the pushchair pops out and clicks into place. It can be done one-handed, although I found the lever clipped back into place when twisting the handle so I used both hands.

When folded, the pushchair stands on its own, and there’s a shoulder strap tucked into the top for transportation. Or you can pack it into its travel bag for added protection when travelling.

The pushchair is extremely lightweight (6.5kg), and the shoulder strap is convenient for lugging it up and down stairs. That said, I wouldn’t want to be carrying it for long periods because it didn’t fit neatly on my shoulder (but no pushchair would).

Generally, we found it easier to transport it unfolded – it made a useful bag carrier when our little one refused to sit in it! We just picked it up using the safety bar when going up or down steps.

We didn’t tend to use the travel bag much because it was a snug fit, so getting the stroller in and out of it was more trouble than it was worth.

The Silver Cross Clic 2 pushchair moves so easily and feels light as a feather; I often pushed it one-handed and had no trouble steering around corners. On smooth terrain – like a road or an airport floor – it glides without hardly touching it.

The handlebar height was perfect for me, but my 6ft husband found it a bit low – unfortunately, the bar doesn’t adjust.

How comfortable is the Silver Cross Clic 2 pushchair for your baby?

My little one was generally very happy in this pushchair and could comfortably sit strapped in for long periods of time. The five-point harness has padded covers and clips together with a magnetic buckle. I found it easy to use, although it might be harder with a fidgety toddler.

Whilst the seat is cushioned and looks comfortable, I felt it lacked support for my baby, who is small for his age (8 months). He tended to slump to one side and sink down, which meant that he wasn’t so well shaded from the sun despite the UPF 50 hood being fully down. This seemed to happen regardless of whether he was upright or lying flat.

Although the pram is suitable from birth (up to 22kg, or around 4 years old), I’m not sure I'd feel comfortable using it for a newborn baby, especially because the seat is forward-facing. In my opinion, it would benefit from an insert for added support, like the YOYO³ with the Stokke YOYO newborn pack.

The footrest pops out and clicks into place. Although he’s not tall, our 8-month-old needed the footrest; otherwise, his feet dropped over the end. He seemed comfortable using it, although he preferred to rest his legs on the safety bar!

How does it handle naps and comfort on the go?

The Silver Cross Clic 2's seat has an extended recline setting so it can lie flat for nap time. Our little guy slept happily in it despite his slumping.

To lift the seat, you pull a fabric belt at the back, which locks the seat in place whenever you stop pulling. To recline, simply pull the lever at the bottom of the belt, and the seat drops back down, though do this gradually, otherwise the seat falls quickly to a full recline.

A UPF sunshade keeps the light out of baby’s eyes, but I felt it could do with dropping down further in order to protect exposed arms and legs from sunlight. A pram parasol might be a good addition.

The high-quality materials used for the seat and padding are breathable, so air flows easily. On holiday, our guy seemed to keep cool and comfy in it until temperatures reached the high 20s.

The buggy’s storage basket isn’t the largest, but we found it sufficient for storing loose items on day trips. You won’t fit a bag in it, but it’s enough space for jumpers, snacks and some toys.

I'm a huge fan of the Silver Cross Clic 2. It’s incredibly light, incredibly compact, and very easy to push. For holidays or weekend trips, it’s perfect. Opening and closing it is quick and easy, and my baby seemed happy in it for long periods of time. The only downside for me was the lack of support or padding to hold him up, but this isn’t enough to stop me using it again – in fact, it has replaced our Ocarro pram on walks in our hometown because it’s so much lighter and easier to manage.

This newest iteration, the Stokke YOYO³, has enhanced suspension and double the storage basket capacity as its predecessors, and is made from sleeker materials – with reflective wheels, an added ventilation window and an improved buckle mechanism on its five-point harness.

The 0+ newborn pack, available to buy separately, includes a cosy, lie-flat nest, which means the YOYO³ can be used from birth, making it an appealing choice for parents who need something compact and portable right from the start.

At £339 for the Stokke YOYO³ frame and £195 for the 0+ newborn pack, it’s at the luxury end of the compact stroller market, although it is possible to buy the stroller and newborn accessories as a bundle for a reduced price of £479.

How do you fold and unfold the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair?

To fold the pushchair:

• Push in the white buttons on either side of the handle to put the handle down.
• Reach underneath the pram where there is a red handle with a white button on it. You push the button to release the handle, which then allows you to collapse the pram.

There is a clip that holds the pram together while it is in the folded position. To unfold, you simply release the clip and then shake the pram out, clicking it back into place.

Is it easy to fold the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair?

Not exactly; I'd say the fold isn't intuitive. It took me a long time of fiddling around with the handle and button to get the YOYO³ to fold down, and then I struggled to replicate it a second and even a third time. It’s not helped by the fact that the button and handle are on the underside of the newborn seat, so you can’t see what you’re doing.

If I were travelling alone with this pram, I would want to spend a lot of time practising the fold beforehand – otherwise, I wouldn’t be confident I could manage it.

Can you fold the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair with one hand?

The first step to folding the pram is pressing two buttons on either side of the handle simultaneously, so it’s not strictly one-handed from start to finish. But with the newborn attachment in place, you can leave your baby in the pram while you put the handle down, and then lift them out before you fold the rest of the pushchair.

While it's possible to fold the YOYO³ while holding your baby, I certainly found it tricky. The button to fold the pram down is on the underside of the newborn seat, so you have to bend right down, reach under, and feel around for it. It's slightly awkward while holding a baby, but it's doable, and I think it would get easier with practice.

How compact is it when folded?

When folded, the Stokke YOYO³, including the newborn pack, measures H52cm x W44cm x D 18cm and would fit easily into a car boot or overhead bin. It’s also compact enough that you could put it over your head on a train, instead of having to find room on a luggage rack. What do you think of the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair's 0+ newborn pack?

The newborn nest is undeniably small, but there’s plenty of room for a little baby. Designed to accommodate babies from birth up to 9kg (19.8lbs) it boasts a lie-flat position and has a small head support as well as adjustable straps to keep your baby safe and secure. My son was only two months old during testing, but I do think parents with larger, longer or older babies might find it to be a tight fit. I know the newborn pack is designed to accommodate babies up to 9kg, but I’m not sure this would be the most comfortable option for a child approaching that size. It's certainly cosy and I like that it comes with a fluffy cover that zips on to keep babies warm and snug.

Are the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair's fabrics soft and breathable?

Yes. We were initially worried that the fluffy cover on the newborn pack would be too hot, especially as we tested during a sunny spell, but we were pleasantly surprised with how breathable it was. You can remove the fluffy cover entirely if you want to use the pram in really hot weather. I didn’t find the shoulder strap the most comfortable – but it is genuinely useful, and more than bearable, for short bursts of time.

I would definitely use it, for example, going up or down stairs, or getting on or off the train. Carrying any folded pushchair for a long period of time is going to be onerous – but this is one of the better ones that I’ve tried.

Yes. This pushchair is really suited to families (like ours) who use public transport a lot – whether that’s the tube, the bus or the train. It is small and compact, meaning it doesn’t take up too much space and you can squeeze on without feeling guilty, even when it’s busy or crowded. It’s light enough that you could carry it up and down flights of stairs on your own, meaning you wouldn’t need to panic when lifts are out of service. And it’s easy to steer and manoeuvre around crowds.

Not many newborn prams fold down without you having to remove an element (usually a bassinet) so the fact that the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair’s 0+ newborn pack does collapse completely – and stores so easily - really makes it an excellent option for flights and train journeys.

The storage basket on the Stokke YOYO³ pushchair is naturally smaller than one you might find on a larger pram, but the 10kg capacity is impressive for a compact stroller. It can easily fit a shopping bag or a changing bag (just not both at the same time).

For quick errands, I think the basket is more than sufficient although I wouldn’t rely on it for storage on a full-day outing, especially when out with both my children. It’s not quite big enough to handle the array of changing bags, snacks, coats and toys that come with a toddler!

That said, I noticed no difference in the pram’s performance when the basket was full. It still felt lightweight and responsive to push and was still able to zip around crowds quickly.

It only took about 5 minutes to set up the stroller. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, we didn't need any tools and it was simple to assemble and take out of the box, only requiring scissors to take off some of the packaging. All we needed to do was attach the front 2 wheels and the bumper bar.

How comfortable is the Kinderkraft PILOT 2 seat unit for your baby?

The seat feels comfortable and spacious for my 6-month-old baby and even for my 2 year old on occasion!

There is padding on the straps and in the seat which felt fine for my 6 month old, but may not be supportive enough for a younger baby. There is a built-in footrest which is versatile and can be adjusted to different positions for maximum comfort.

This is where the stroller shines. It's straightforward to fold and unfold quickly when needed at the airport, it easily fits into overhead compartments and I found it easy to lift to store in there too. The shoulder strap made it comfortable to carry up and down the plane aisle when boarding and deplaning.

We were able to wheel the PILOT 2 through security and the airport unfolded, and then when the pushchair needed to be folded, it was light to lift and carry. The carry strap is padded, easily accessible, and can be tucked away when not in use.

The PILOT 2 comes with a travel bag which provided good protection, but was difficult to get on and over the buggy unless 2 hands (sometimes 4 hands!) were used. It extends down in-line with the end of the bumper bar, but there was still not sufficient coverage to stop the sun being in my baby's eyes, which meant a parasol or a wide-brimmed hat was needed. However, in light rain showers it protected my daughter's head and upper body with ease. There is also a ventilation panel in the canopy, allowing a clear view of baby.

I knew the Cybex Orfeo was hand luggage-compatible, but I hadn’t anticipated such a slim, neat package. I had previously used the Babyzen YOYO 2 and was under the impression that there was nothing like it on the market, but the Cybex Orfeo is obviously a serious contender. I could lift the pushchair out of the box in its entirety with one hand, which was a pleasant surprise too.

The frame seemed robust enough at first glance, and I liked the brown leather-style handlebar and sleek silver frame, though the buttons seemed a little flimsy, and I questioned whether they could withstand regular use. The design seemed simple and functional, rather than stylish.

How easy is it to build the Cybex Orfeo stroller?

There was nothing to build! The pushchair comes as one ready-made piece, so there’s no need to mess around with clips and bolts. However, getting used to the folding mechanism and working out how to keep the pushchair upright took quite a bit of time, and I didn’t find the instructions particularly helpful either. These included some diagrams and QR codes to online videos. Unfortunately, the videos don’t include text or narration, so if you have an issue with the setup (as I did), you’ll need to keep pausing the video to get a good idea of where you’re going wrong.

How easy is the Cybex Orfeo stroller to push and steer?

I was surprised by how easy it is to push the Cybex Orfeo. I’m used to pushing the YOYO 2 around, which is a notoriously bumpy ride for little ones, but Orfeo glides fairly quietly over a variety of surfaces. It isn’t robust enough to push across a muddy park or gravel, but it does feel sturdy enough to mount high kerbs without lifting. The front suspension, while not as comprehensive as its other prams, helps too.

How lightweight is the Cybex Orfeo stroller to carry around?

The pushchair only weighs 6.5 kg (roughly the same weight as the YOYO 2), so it’s incredibly easy to carry around. It also features an integrated carry strap, so you can wear the entire unit over your shoulder. Dare I say it, you could even carry the pushchair in one hand and your little one in the other.

How easy is it to fold the Cybex Orfeo stroller?

In theory, the buggy should be really easy to fold up and down thanks to its one-hand fold-and-unfold feature, but I found it really tricky. To unfold the pushchair, you need to push the small button at the back of the handlebar and squeeze the larger button at the front, open up the pushchair and click it into place.

However, it took me a really long time to get the knack for clipping the pushchair into place, and I found it kept collapsing back into its folded structure. I also had an issue unfolding it on a longer walk when the material from the basket got caught in a wheel.

Folding the buggy up, however, is a dream and takes a matter of seconds. Another big bonus is that you can fold the pushchair with the seat attached, so there’s no need to waste time removing various components.

This is where the Orfeo really comes into its own. The pushchair folds down to a teeny-tiny H53cm x W48cm x L15.5cm, which makes it really easy to store. It’s hand-luggage compatible, so there’s no need to worry about damage in hold. The Orfeo packs away easily onto the parcel shelf of a car, too, with plenty of room for suitcases and other items.

Is the Cybex Orfeo stroller self-standing when folded?

Yes, the Cybex Orfeo does self-stand, though I found it best to lean against a wall to avoid it toppling over.

How well does it work on public transport?

We tested the Cybex Orfeo stroller out on the train, tube and bus, and it worked fantastically. It feels sturdy enough to mount the tube and dreaded overground gap without lifting, and I even managed to take it on an escalator. In theory, you could fold up the pushchair and carry your baby or toddler separately very easily too, though the frame is so slim it’s easy enough to keep it erect in a busy carriage.

Unfortunately, the handlebar can’t be adjusted. At 102cm high, I found it comfortable enough, but my 6ft husband struggled. What is the seat unit like on the Cybex Orfeo?

The seat unit is well-padded and supports the weight of my 5-month-old baby, though I do wonder how well it would hold up with a toddler strapped to it. The straps are easy to tighten and loosen thanks to its handy one-pull harness mechanism. As I was testing the pushchair with a baby under 6 months, I also appreciated how easy it was to adjust the shoulder straps, which slide up and down.

My 5-month-old is large for his age, so I didn’t have any qualms about packing him into the seat. The straps held him in securely and, unlike its competitors, the seat fully reclines, making naps on the go much easier. There’s an integrated leg rest too, which should come in handy as he grows. There isn’t any padding on the sides or the backrest, but my son seemed comfortable and nodded off fairly easily.

One thing worth noting – we tested the seat out in winter and found that we weren’t able to use a standard footmuff due to the layout of the straps. It was delivered already assembled and folded up – I couldn’t believe there was a pram in the tiny box that arrived at my house. Given the ease of folding and unfolding the pram, set-up was a piece of cake, and it was ready to go in seconds. The operating guide is easily understandable with colour coding and clear instructions.
