A baby carrier is a brilliant way to keep your baby securely held against you, whilst allowing you to be hands-free. Not to be confused with baby slings and wraps (which are made of fabric that wraps and ties around the body), baby carriers are more structured and usually fasten with buckles and clips.

Jump to our list of the best baby carriers

There are huge variety of different styles that allow you to carry your baby on your front, side or back. Some carriers can be used from the birth of your baby, others have a minimum weight limit. While most parents get the maximum use out of them in the first 18 months or so, many can actually be used to carry children aged three years or even more; in fact, one carrier on our list could be suitable up to the age of 7.

To compile this list, we tested a range of carriers with our parent testers and their babies, as well as consulting babywearing experts and midwives for their advice. We also compared the carriers, looking at their fabrication, features, padding and support to come up with a list that caters for all requirements.

Suitable from: birth to 3 years | Carrying positions: 4 — newborn front facing parent, front facing parent, front facing out, on back facing parent | Machine washable: Yes | MFM star rating: 4.8

Pros:

Good support for you and baby

Magnetic clips

Easy to fit

Cons:

Buckles and clips may be difficult to negotiate at first

This carrier offers plenty of comfort for parents thanks to the well-padded straps and a really good lumbar spine cushion. It’s also good for your baby’s development, allowing their spine to be held in a natural C-shape and their hips and legs in the M-position certified by the Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Our home testers found that the bib-style buckles at the front make it easy to get your baby in and out of the carrier. You can put the entire carrier on first and make most of the adjustments, then put your child in by lowering the front 'apron' and doing up the magnetic clips. This also makes switching positions a little easier. Parent tester Helen liked how easy it was to use in different ways, saying: "to swap positions from parent-facing to outward-facing is very simple – just an adjustment of the buttons at the front."

Because the fabric is so soft, it moulds to your baby’s shape to keep them comfortable and snug. It can be used from birth as long as your baby weighs more than 3.2kg and you can continue to use it up to 25lbs (approximately 9 months).

Parent tester Laura, who tested this with her 8-week-old baby (pictured above), said both her and her husband loved the carrier and found it easy to use, but did note that an extra pair of hands can be useful: "it's very easy to use with only a few simple clips to fasten before you're ready to go, but we did struggle to do this on our own and often needed someone else to assist with the fastenings whilst the wearer held baby in place."

It can be used in 4 positions, including as a newborn carrier. It is adjustable so that it can fit different parents or carers and it will also continue to fit your baby as they grow.

It has a good and supportive waist belt that helps to distribute your baby’s weight across your torso and pelvis and thus avoid back strain and there’s a bib to protect the fabric from drool and dribble and keep the carrier looking better for longer.

Parent tester Megan was impressed, she said: "we love it. It’s easy to use and to adjust sizes between me and my partner when each of us is using it."

With SoftFlex Mesh breathable fabric, the Omni Breeze carrier provides maximum airflow, making it a great baby carrier for warmer days. According to the Ergobaby website, it is 50% cooler than similarly comparable mesh baby carriers. The fabric is super lightweight and breathable and perfect for warm weather.

"For those looking for something for newborn through to 4 years, it’s a winner – if you’re happy to spend a bit of money, of course," noted parent tester Claire in her review of the Ergobaby Omni Breeze. It has brilliant support when outward facing, good breathability, excellent lumbar support and easy adjustability around the head and neck area.

"The carrier makes your baby feel almost weightless, plus it adapts to you and your baby’s shape; the functionality is super and it’s a breeze to put on and adjust. From teething solutions and breastfeeding privacy to being seen in the dark, the designers have thought of everything and more with the Breeze" Claire added, who tested this with their 4-month-old twins.

Providing an easy, adjustable fit for both baby and parents of different sizes, the Ergobaby Omni Breeze is certainly a hardworking and comfortable carrier that will last from newborn to 4 years.

Read our full MadeForMums ErgoBaby Omni Breeze baby carrier review

Available from: Boots, Amazon and Ergobaby

The head support can be adjusted through 3 positions to keep even tiny newborns’ heads supported and it’s super easy to adjust as they grow, using simple poppers.

Similar to the Joie Savvy, this carrier has an apron design with front clips that help you get your baby in and out easily and is simple to adjust to the wearer’s body shape. It has good padding on the shoulder straps, belt and good back support to keep you comfortable even when wearing your baby for long stretches.

Sling expert Katy Blundell was impressed with the quality of the carrier, describing it as "well-made with lovely breathable fabric." It may be more expensive than some but has been designed to be used for 3 years, so it will grow with your baby and represents good value for money.

Parent tester Alannah, who tested this with their 3 month old (pictured), said "my husband found it really comfortable and supportive. It didn’t hurt his lower back or shoulders which the older carrier did."

Suitable from: birth to 2.5/3 years (3 to 20kg) | Carrying positions: 3 – front facing parent, back facing parent, hip | Machine washable: Yes, on cold

Pros:

Ethically made

Organic fabrics

Comfy for parent and baby

Inclusive fit range

Fun patterns

Cons:

On the pricier side

No world facing option

Tricky to get the hang of at first

Mamaruga is run by 2 passionate babywearers and mums, and the Zebulo is a great quality carrier designed to keep your baby close from birth up to around 2.5 years of age. Made from 100% organic natural fabrics and woven by crafts people in Türkiye, it’s a fantastic sustainable, ethical and eco-friendly choice that’s durable and looks great.

Designed to be used from birth in the front, parent facing position, it holds your baby in a comfortable and ergonomic position, with their hips and spine in the best M-shape for growth and development. You can also use the Zebulo as a hip carrier, or as a parent facing back carrier once your baby can sit unaided.

While our parent tester, Beth (pictured), who tested the carrier with her 6-month-old baby, felt the carrier was a little tricky to get the hang of at first, by her 4th attempt she felt confident enough to put it on by herself. She explained, "the back straps that need to be pulled upwards are tricky to do as it’s quite an unnatural movement. Again, practise and learning which straps to adjust made it easier to do solo."

Beth also agrees with the brand’s claim that the Zebulo is "inclusive" and "designed to be used by everyone" as it felt just as comfortable for petite Beth to wear as it did for her 6ft husband.

Beth also praised the comfort levels for her son, who hasn’t always felt comfortable in baby carriers: "once fastened in, he is very calm in the Zebulo and starts babbling away to himself, taking in all of the surroundings. Each time we’ve gone for a walk in this carrier, he’s fallen asleep after 30 minutes or so."

Sling expert and babywearing consultant Hannah Wallace commented that the Integra has “all the feel of a wrap, but was much easier to use” and praised the lack of bulkiness and thick padding. However, she recommends trying the Integra first to check how well it fits your body shape.

Parent tester Paul, dad of two, said, "the Integra is a great carrier; it’s compact but also felt comfortable for our little one and supportive for my back. It is high quality – the material looks and feels great. We loved the design, which is cheerful for kids but modern for parents too."

Made to last your baby up to their toddler years, it comes in 3 sizes, with Size 1 suitable from birth until around 2 years, Size 2 from 18 months to around 3 years and Size 3 from 3 years up to 5 (admittedly, for "shorter carrying moments," as the brand points out).

It’s easy to use and the carrier distributes your baby’s weight evenly across your torso to help prevent backache. It has a simple and straightforward design that does not have surplus clips, buckles or pockets but has an adjustable section where your baby sits that grows with them up to toddler years. It comes in lots of different prints and colours in a high quality fabric and can be folded up and popped into a changing bag or under the stroller when not in use.

This carrier does not have a world-facing option, but instead is optimised for a comfortable parent-facing carry, or (as the child gets old) a back carry position. This does mean fewer options, but the benefit is a really good ergonomically-designed front carry that's likely to keep your child comfortable and content for longer. Parent tester Abigail found it useful for settling her 8-month-old daughter adding, "she gets excited when she sees the carrier as she likes to be in it."

Babywearing expert, Hannah Wallace explained, "this is really good value for extended carrying and offers something new and important to the market. It is ideal if your child is in age 3 to 4 years clothes and you’ve outgrown your baby/toddler carrier."

MFM parent tester Rachel, mum of 1, found it to be a great fit for her child and said, "I haven’t used my stroller since I’ve had it on test. My pre-schooler loves it, says he’s super comfy and calls it the ‘carry cuddle’!:

While our home testers found the padded shoulder straps comfortable, they warned that this carrier is not necessarily suitable for someone with back problems. "Initially comfortable and felt very supportive but after about 5 minutes my back was very strained when used front-facing. I have a bad back (thanks kids!) and found that I wouldn’t be able to use the carrier for very long," said home tester Lucy, mum of 2.

It can be used from birth up to 3 years and you can wear your baby facing you in the early months, then facing the world once they can hold their head up, and finally on your back as they head towards toddler years. It has good padding on the waist belt to avoid back strain and an adjustable chest strap to evenly distribute your baby’s weight. There’s even a handy pocket on the waistband for a packet of wipes or a muslin. Parent tester Sami tested it with her baby and said, "one of the best things I bought for my baby. We've used it so much! Perfect for dog walking too, as you have 2 free hands and great for beach walking and forests."

As there's no fabric between the baby and the wearer's body, it's easy to use for breastfeeding mothers too, as all you need to do when your baby is facing you is to loosen the side buckle, allowing your baby to lean sideways to reach your breast. Always remember to return your child to the upright position and do up the buckle again when you have finished nursing.

What to look for when choosing a baby carrier:

Sling and carrier expert Hannah Wallace is the owner of Wear My Baby, one of the UK’s leading baby carrier shops and advice services. Here, she’s outlined everything you need to know before choosing your baby carrier. She then shares her advice on how to use one safely.

Get the right size: Choosing a baby carrier is a lot like choosing jeans, shoes or a bra – how it fits depends both on your body shape and your preferences of what feels good on your body. For example, mums who are very petite and/or have large breasts should generally avoid very bulky carriers that have internal harnesses. I spend a lot of time looking parents up and down and assessing which carriers will be perfect for their size and shape! I can almost always find carriers that will fit both mum and dad, so you don’t necessarily need two carriers – but if you get the opportunity to try on a wide range of carriers, you may find that you have different favourites.

Get the right fit : Remember that how a carrier is fitted is just as important as which one you choose. If not well fitted, even the fanciest, high-end carrier may not offer optimal safety for your baby and can put a strain on your back and shoulders. It’s worth getting advice from baby carrier experts or your local sling library, where they can help you get the most comfortable fit.

Carrying positions: Baby carriers come with a range of positions that will help you and your baby to get a comfortable fit as they grow. From 4 months (to around 10 months) your baby can be carried facing outwards – make sure they can hold their head up well and that they are big enough for their mouth to be clear of the carrier. It’s not essential to carry your baby facing outwards – letting them ride with their arms out of the carrier is a great alternative – but many babies enjoy facing forwards and discovering the world whilst still being held snugly against the parent. Your baby will feel heavier as their weight will be pulling away from you, so only do so for short periods of time (30-45 minutes is ideal) and never when they are asleep. Many carriers can also be used for hip carrying (from 5 to 6 months) and back carrying (from 6 to 9 months).

Ease of cleaning: It’s common for parents to use their baby carriers for several hours a day, several days per week, for a couple of years, so it’ll no doubt get dribbled, chewed and vomited on. It’s worth checking if you can pop it in the washing machine or if it’s suitable for wipe cleaning only.

Cost: Most carriers tend to sit around the £130 to £150 price point, but there are much cheaper ones available. Price isn’t necessarily an indication of quality when it comes to carriers, as some of the lesser-known and more affordable brands performed as well as higher-priced brands in our tests. The most important thing is to find a baby carrier that fits you well and that you can use easily.

What are the alternatives to a baby carrier?

If you’re after a soft, stretchy wrap to wear with your baby rather than a structured carrier, we’ve also rounded up the best baby wraps and slings with our parent testers. Ideal for smaller newborns, slings differ from baby carriers in that they don’t usually have clips, buckles or buttons, and have to be tied to fit securely, which will take practise.

Backpack carriers are also great for parents who like to head places a buggy would struggle to go, whether this is an epic mountain trek or just the local market. Back carriers are suitable for babies who can sit up and support themselves – generally you’ll see them labelled as being okay for use from six months and they last until your child is three or four years old – if your back can withstand it!

How to wear a baby carrier safely

Babies should always be carried upright: This is so that their airways are open and clear. Babies should never be carried in a laying down, ‘cradle’ position.

Make sure it's well-tightened: Ensure your baby cannot slump inside the carrier. If it is too big or too loose, your baby’s chin can drop down onto their chest which could compromise their airways.

Make sure it's adjusted correctly: If your carrier is adjustable, make sure the width and height of the carrier is set to the correct size for your baby’s age and stage. There’s usually a guide to this one inside of the carrier’s waistband; if not then refer to the instruction manual.

Make sure you can see your baby’s face: Babies should be positioned high up on your chest and be close enough for you to easily kiss the top of their head without craning your neck.

Make sure their legs are positioned correctly: The IHDI (International Hip Dysplasia Institute) recommends carrying with baby’s hips in a natural "M" position during their first 6 months, with the hips bent a little more than a right angle – 90°+ (see image below). The IHDI also has a list of approved "hip healthy" baby carriers if you want more reassurance.

Be sure not to overheat your baby: As a rough rule of thumb when carrying, your body counts as one layer of clothing, the baby carrier is at least one more, and if you’re in a warm place that’s a third – so make sure they’re not overdressed.

Remember the T.I.C.K.S guide to babywearing safety – This is a handy reminder of what to check for when using a baby carrier (Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep chin off the chest, Supported back).

How did we choose our 11 of the Best?

All the carriers in this list have been tried by parent testers. During the testing process we considered comfort, ease of fit, adaptability for different body types, number of carrying positions, fabrics used, design and appearance, and extra features. We also asked testers if they felt the product was worth the money.

Our 10 of the Best lists are compiled by qualified and experienced parenting journalists. They rely on a number of sources, including our independent reviews, testing undertaken during the MadeForMums Awards, and feedback from our home testing panel and Top Testers Club. Each year thousands of products are put through their paces by hundreds of parents across the country on behalf of MadeForMums, to ensure we’re bringing you honest and true reviews and recommendations.

Our list is not an ordered ranking from 1-11, instead it is a carefully selected group of tried-and-tested products, each of which we believe is best for a different situation or requirement. We don’t just tell you what is best, we help you discover what is best for your family.

About our parent tester

A journalist for the past 25 years, Claire has worked for national and regional print and digital publications, specialising in fertility and women’s health. She lives in Wiltshire with her husband and three children, 5-year-old Sophia and 10-week-old twins, Elspeth and Thomas.

Claire used the Najell Rise baby carrier to conduct a variety of different chores around the home, including washing up, clothes washing, hoovering and making lunch. She also used it to take walks in her local area and day trips out with her family.

It was particularly useful as her 10-week-old daughter, Elspeth, suffers with reflux and struggle to be led down for too long.

How easy is it to set up and adjust the Najell Rise baby carrier?

The Najell Rise arrived in a stylish, compact box covered in cool images showing how the carrier could be used in the three carrying positions. The instructions were straightforward and clear, although when I first tried to put Elspeth in it, it felt quite awkward – but that could have been first-time nerves of making sure she was comfortable. Once I got the hang of it, I found it easy to put on and adjust. The carrier comes already set up; you just have to adjust the straps to fit your body type.

How comfortable is the Najell Rise carrier for your baby?

It took a couple of attempts to get Elspeth in on the first try. I found trying to get her legs in position quite tricky, but soon realised I had to pull the seating area together to get her legs in the correct M-shape positioning.

Each time I have used it, Elspeth has drifted off to sleep and has remained so for the duration. I felt her head and neck were well supported, and the option to make the head and neck support higher was a good feature. What was also handy was that the head and neck support also served well as a sun protector when out on our walks. One thing I did notice was that if she was not wearing a sleepsuit (when I was in the house doing chores), the material rubbed her thighs slightly. Although this soon disappeared once we had finished using it.

How comfortable is the Najell Rise baby carrier for the parent?

Despite the unusual fabric design, the carrier was incredibly comfortable to wear. I noticed immediately that the sturdy waistband supported my tummy following my caesarean section. I felt no strain on my back or shoulders, although the shoulder straps at their tightest were still a little loose. My husband also used it on several occasions and was pleased with its performance. A suggestion could be to make the straps a little longer for ultimate support.

How adjustable and versatile is the Najell Rise baby carrier?

The Rise offers three different carrying positions: chest-facing, front-facing and back-carrying. As Elspeth is just 10 weeks old, I could only use the front-inward position. I believe she found it to be comfortable as she fell asleep against my chest within a few minutes of being in position. I look forward to using it throughout her early years and trying out the other positions.

Do you think the Najell Rise baby carrier is stylish and well-designed?

I like the colour (I tested out Almond Beige) and found it colour-coordinated well with my outfits as I wear a lot of cream and beige. The material is durable and sturdy and even though the fabric is a little out of the ordinary, it is comfortable against my body. The carrier is also available in Jet Black, Silver Grey and a soft green shade, ranging in price from £135-165.

Design-wise, I think the magnetic clips are hardwearing, sturdy and an appealing feature, particularly when trying to get a wriggly newborn into a confined space quickly and comfortably. It looks modern and I had several people comment on it when out walking in my local park.

How portable and easy to store is it?

I found the Najell Rise baby carrier to be lightweight, easily foldable, but possibly a little bulky. It did not fit into my changing bag, so instead I carried it in the pram’s storage basket – although it meant nothing else could fit there.

How easy is it to clean the Najell Rise baby carrier?

It can be machine-washed at 40 degrees, but it is advised not to tumble dry. It must be placed in a washing bag to protect the buckles and best washed by itself. A couple of milk stains were easily wiped clean with an antibacterial wipe.

What are the key safety features of the Najell Rise baby carrier?

The carrier felt very secure when I was wearing it. The magnetic clips felt robust, and the sound of the straps clicking into place was reassuring. I had no concerns about Elspeth slipping, and reading the instructions was well worth it.

Something that also impressed me was the number of times the instructions highlighted the dangers of suffocation for babies under 4 months and how to make the child feel secure and comfortable. As I said earlier in the review, I did have a slight concern about Elspeth’s thighs rubbing, but nothing that a sleepsuit to cover them would soon solve. I like that it has been tested and approved by the European safety report.

What are the sustainability features of the Najell Rise baby carrier?

The sturdiness of the carrier lends me to believe that it will have a long life; I'm hoping to use it over the next three years and am confident it will be reliable. The instruction booklet states that the fabric (100% polyester) has been tested and approved as free from any harmful substances and does not contain any animal products.

Is the Najell Rise baby carrier worth the money?

Priced at £145, it is up there with some of the higher-priced baby carriers on the market, although still more affordable than many Ergobaby and BabyBjörn carriers. I could not see any serious issues with it and felt it to be very useful with Elspeth’s reflux issue. Being able to get things done around the house and getting out and about, especially with twins, is so important for both mental and physical health, and I felt thankful to have the Najell Rise available to me.

Where can I buy the Najell Rise baby carrier?

It's available from Najell and Little Bubbas.

MadeForMums verdict:

Overall, I was pleased with the Najell Rise baby carrier’s performance. It was incredibly comfortable for me to wear, in fact, it did not feel like I was wearing a carrier, it was that convincing. With Elspeth’s reflux being a concern for me in these precious first weeks, it enabled me to keep her safe, comfortable and be able to continue to do what I needed in a time that can be stressful and pressurised. I would certainly recommend it to my pregnant friends. So, if you’re looking for a sturdy, modern carrier that will stand the test of time, this is the one for you.

About our parent tester

Books journalist Caroline Carpenter, who has worked for a trade magazine for a decade, is a first-time mum who tested the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier with her son between 4 and 6 months of age. Having used an Innoo fabric sling when her baby was younger and a friend’s Ergobaby carrier once more recently, she was curious to see how her baby got on with the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier. She and her husband tested it while doing chores around the house and on walks outside.

What were your first impressions?

When my Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier arrived, the first thing I noticed is that it's softer than I expected it to be, having only used the more structured Ergobaby carrier before. While this means it's light and easy to fold and fit in a bag or pocket, I wondered if it would be strong enough to comfortably and securely hold my growing baby boy. In terms of appearance, it is a dark grey colour that looks functional rather than stylish. Though it's not to my personal taste, a plus point is that it's neutral and something both my husband and I feel equally comfortable wearing.

How easy is it to put on with your baby?

The instructions provided in the manual for the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier are image-only, and I would have appreciated some written ones too, as I think this would have made it easier for me to put it on. As there are multiple straps and buckles, it's not always obvious which ones the instructions are referring to.

Another thing that makes it a little trickier to put on is the fact that Izmi recommends putting the baby in the carrier before you adjust or fasten it, as opposed to slotting them in once it's on, which might be hard to do alone if the baby is heavy or wriggly. It took me a few minutes to work out how to use the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier initially, and I needed help to get it on the first few times I tried it, but it did get easier every time.

Helpfully, Izmi offers a free 15-minute video fit check with every carrier purchase, to make sure it is set up safely and comfortably. It also has a video tutorial and more tips available on its website.

How easy is it to take your baby out?

I find it pretty easy to take my baby out of the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier as it's simply a case of undoing a couple of buckles and pulling down the straps, which doesn't disturb him too much.

Is it ergonomic?

According to Izmi, all of its baby carriers and wraps have been certified as Hip-Healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. The Breeze Baby Carrier easily holds my baby in the ideal position for his hips, with his knees slightly higher than his bottom in an 'M' position. It is also adjustable to ensure support for his hips at every age and stage.

How comfortable is the product for your baby?

My son fusses when I'm getting him into the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier, as he has with other slings and carriers that I've used, but he seems comfortable and well-supported enough once he's in it. He's fallen asleep on a couple of walks when held in the Front Carry position facing me, and he seemed to enjoy being in the forward-facing position too, as he was able to look around at our surroundings.

How comfortable is the product for you?

The first time I wore the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier, it wasn't super-comfortable as one of the straps was a little loose, so I didn't feel like my baby was completely secure. However, once I tightened it for subsequent wears, it became more comfortable and felt secure in a couple of different positions. It puts a little strain on my back to walk with him in it for roughly half an hour, but no more than carrying him in my arms does.

How many different positions does it offer?

There are four different positions that you can hold your baby in using the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier. From birth onwards, you can use it in the Front Carry position, while you can hold your baby in the Hip Carry and Forward Facing Carry positions from 4 months of age, although the latter is recommended for short periods only (15 minutes) and not while your baby is sleeping. You can also hold your baby in the Back Carry position once they are 6 months old.

My baby didn't seem to like being in the Hip Carry position much when we tried it, but that could be partly down to the fact that it took me a little while to work out where the straps and buckles were meant to go, which probably wasn't very comfortable for him.

He currently seems to find the Front Carry position the most comfortable, probably partly because this is the position he is most used to being held in with our sling. I do think that he'll increasingly enjoy the Forward Facing Carry and Back Carry positions as he gets older and is more curious about seeing the world around him when we go for walks.

How easy is it to adjust?

Izmi claims that the Baby Breeze Carrier grows with your baby as you can extend its width with hidden Velcro tabs and increase the height of your carrier with poppers, to ensure an ergonomic and comfy fit at every age and stage. The body panel width of the carrier extends from 18cm to 41cm. It’s relatively simple to tighten and loosen the straps and buckles of the Izmi Baby Breeze Carrier when I need to reposition my baby, although it is definitely easier to do when someone is around to help me as my son is quite wriggly now.

Is it easy for you to do other things while wearing it?

I find it relatively easy to do most household chores with my baby in the Izmi Baby Breeze Carrier, although it's a little trickier if I have to bend over as the movement is likely to disturb my baby.

I bottle feed my son, but Izmi states that you can breastfeed using this carrier. It recommends that you do this with your baby sitting or being held upright and that you use at least one hand to support your baby until they can grasp on their own. A video tutorial and more tips on how to breastfeed while using the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier can be found on the brand's website.

How well does it fit?

The Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is pitched as being "designed to fit all mums, dads and carers", with a waistband that extends from 56cm to 135cm and adjustable shoulder straps. My husband and I both tested the product, and we have very different body shapes – he's almost a foot taller than me, for a start. We both found that the waistband could be easily adjusted to suit our bodies, although we had to fiddle about with the shoulder straps a little bit to ensure that our son was sitting comfortably and securely.

What age range is this suitable for according to the manufacturer?

Though the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is safety tested to a maximum weight of 16kg (33lb), the manufacturer bills it as ideal for babies from 0-12 months of age. Izmi says the carrier is suitable for newborn babies who weigh 3.2kg (7lb) or more, but also states on its website that it can be used with babies who only weigh 2.3kg (5lb) if you get advice from a babywearing or health professional first. If your baby is on the taller or heavier side, Izmi recommends that you size up to an Izmi Breeze Toddler Carrier at around 7-9 months.

My baby is about average height and weight for his age, and in my experience, the sizing for the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is pretty accurate. At the moment, he sits in it quite comfortably, but there is still some room for him to grow.

How would you rate the buckles/straps/buttons where relevant?

The buckles, straps and buttons on the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier seem to be of good quality – they've all worked well for me and are easy to adjust. As I have quite short arms, I have a little trouble doing up and undoing the buckle that sits at the top of my back, and either need to do it up before putting that part of the carrier over my head or get help with it.

How would you rate the quality of the fabric/materials?

Despite its lightness, the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier feels well-made and durable. The mesh panel is soft and breathable, while the cotton making up the rest of the carrier is strong and sturdy.

How easy is it to clean and keep clean?

Like all Izmi products, the Breeze Baby Carrier is machine washable on a cool 30°C (86°F) or delicate cycle. However, Izmi recommends that you spot clean it with a damp cloth unless it's really mucky. It also advises that the carrier should only be air dried and not put in the tumble dryer. Following these instructions, I found it a "breeze" to wash and dry my carrier!

What are the safety elements/features?

The Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier has been certified as Hip-Healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. It also has a mesh panel to ensure there is more air flow for your baby. I tested the product during the winter, but if I was using it during the summer then I'm sure this extra breathability would reassure me of my son's comfort and safety despite the hot weather.

If this is the latest version of a previous baby carrier/wrap/sling, how does it compare?

Compared to the standard version of the Izmi Baby Carrier, the short version of the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is almost identical; however, it has a soft mesh body panel for extra air flow. Where the regular Izmi Baby Carrier is made from soft cotton, the longer version of the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is made from soft cotton and has a soft polyester mesh panel for extra ventilation to help keep your baby cool. Due to its enhanced breathability, Izmi recommends the Breeze carrier for parents who are in a hot climate or who tend to overheat easily.

How well does it work on public transport?

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier on public transport but I imagine it would be useful if I didn't have much else to carry and it wasn't raining. It would certainly be more convenient than taking out the pram for short trips, as we'd take up much less space.

How does it compare to other carriers/wraps you have used?

I have a long stretchy Innoo fabric sling that I used quite regularly with my son when he was a newborn, and also once used a friend's Ergobaby carrier when my son was 3-and-a-half months old. The Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier falls somewhere between these two options – it is sturdier and feels more secure than the fabric wrap, but more flexible and breathable than the highly structured Ergobaby carrier.

What's in the box? List in bullets the items that you are sent

1 x Izmi Baby Breeze Carrier

1 x instruction manual

Izmi also sent me a hood and pocket, which are additional accessories you can buy with your carrier (more on these below).

What are the additional accessories that you can buy?

Izmi Hood (£9.95) – This sleep and weather hood (which easily attaches with poppers to all Izmi Baby Carriers and Toddler Carriers) offers extra head support for nap time as well as protection from the sun, wind and light showers. It has clips on it to fix the hood in place anywhere on the carrier's shoulder straps and elasticated edges for a snug, supportive fit.

Izmi Pocket (£9.95) – Allowing you to be hands-free when out and about, this detachable bag poppers onto all Izmi Baby Carriers and Toddler Carriers. It is generously sized to fit your phone, keys and baby essentials in it, and has a secure hidden-zip closure.

What did you think of the packaging of this product?

The carrier arrived in a small cardboard box, while the hood and pocket were wrapped in plastic envelopes. The product was well-protected and the packaging was minimal, with the box being very easy to recycle.

Sustainability – production, maintaining, recycling

Izmi says its carriers and slings are made in a sustainable way as it is a small company making fairly small quantities of products, efficiently and without unnecessary wastage.

The Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier can be repaired, with the brand offering free replacement buckles and a free video service to help with any troubleshooting. The product can also be recycled at the end of its life. The fabric can easily be recycled at any textile bank, while the plastic components can be recycled depending on your local services.

Tell us about repair options if it breaks

The warranty for the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier covers one year, but when I contacted the company a representative added: "We will always make replacement parts available to all customers with no end date."

Now you've tested it, what would you have wanted to know before purchasing it?

I would have wanted to know that it can take a little while to figure out how to get this carrier on, as my son is now almost 6 months old and at the stage where he can be quite fussy and wriggly.

Who would this product be most useful for?

The Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is best suited to parents who don't want a bulky carrier, as well as those who are worried about their baby or themselves getting overheated. In fact, it would be ideal to take away on holiday.

Is this product worth the money?

The price of the Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier is mid-range compared to similar carriers I've seen online. If you want a carrier that is adjustable and can be used in a variety of positions but has the softness and flexibility of a sling rather than a highly structured product, then this is a good option.

Where can I buy the Izmi Breeze baby carrier?

It is available from Izmi Baby

undefined

MadeForMums verdict:

The Izmi Breeze Baby Carrier holds my baby securely and comfortably in a number of different positions. It saved me having to push a pram on a couple of trips outside, including a 30-minute countryside walk that involved walking up and down hill. I'm not sure if it's something I would use regularly around the house now my baby is nearly 6 months old and comfortable on his playmat or in his bouncer, but I can imagine it would have been more useful when he was younger and needed to be held more, plus the breathable fabric would have been particularly helpful in the summer.

Already a household name when it comes to baby carriers, Ergobaby has made breathability the USP of its Omni Breeze. Designed with lightweight SoftFlexTM Mesh (a material that’s proven to stay 50% cooler than comparable mesh carriers) it’s all about providing maximum airflow and ultimate comfort for you and your baby.

In fact, comfort seems to have been another design priority with the Omni Breeze making a great ergonomic choice, plus the Breeze packs in loads of added value, from its privacy hood for breastfeeding to the plentiful storage options.

As with many of the brand’s models, long-term usability is high on the agenda, with the Breeze suitable to use from birth until toddler age in a variety of carry positions. With an RRP of £184.90 – the same as the brand’s Omni Dream baby carrier – the Omni Breeze sits in the higher end of the baby carrier market, alongside other premium offerings like the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One Air, £189.

About our parent tester

Claire tested the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier with her 4-month-old twins, Pippa and Max, in northeast Scotland. Her husband, Simon, tested it too and they mainly used it for sleeping (inward facing) but experimented with outward facing to give the babies a different vantage point during their wake time.

What were your first impressions of the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier?

All good! The Omni Breeze comes in a compact box (perfect if you want to save it for selling or handing down to someone else) and it’s folded up nicely in there, along with the instructions. The colour hits the mark for me big time – practical and trendy. But my favourite bit about taking it out of the box? Part of the setting up process is already done for you. Not starting from scratch is a definite bonus when you’re contending with a needy baby. Don’t worry though, if you ever need to take it to bits, the instructions are there to put it back together again.

How easy is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier to set up ready for use?

As I mentioned, part of the setting up is done for you (thanks Ergobaby!) but that doesn’t mean you can just throw your little one in – you need to adjust various mechanisms to suit your baby and yourself.

There are two sets of instructions in the box, but I must admit I quickly reached for my phone – Ergobaby has an official set-up video on their YouTube channel. If learning from pictures suits you, you’ll find the paper version just fine but as someone who likes a step-by-step typed up in black and white, I got a little confused. As soon as I incorporated the video, though, the pictures made sense and combining the two helped me set my sling up in less than five minutes.

One teeny, tiny niggle here – the instruction format is one giant sheet of paper folded up with a step on each section and my (limited capacity) baby brain/desire for ultimate efficiency would have preferred a standard stapled booklet so I could be sure I was doing everything in the right order by turning pages.

How easy is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier to put on with your baby?

When it came to popping Pippa and Max in, I referred to the paper instructions and the official videos, and it couldn’t have been easier. The video didn’t just show me what to do – it also had handy bullet points at each stage with little reminders, like how best to position baby and meet the TICKS criteria. Putting baby into this carrier is a quick, simple process that you can easily do yourself and you’ll pick it up in no time.

How easy is it to take your baby out of the Ergobaby Omni Breeze?

Again, this was pretty seamless – no practice needed, and the babies seemed happy.

Is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier ergonomic?

The website says there’s ergonomic support in all the right places, and I have to agree – I was pretty impressed by the credentials. All Ergobaby carriers have been acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as “Hip Healthy” products and awarded a Seal of Approval by the AGR of Germany as “back-healthy” for babies and parents.

From a personal point of view, I felt the Omni Breeze supported Pippa and Max’s little hips and they were firmly in the recommended ‘M’ position. I was able to tick off my TICKS guidelines with ease, and correctly positioning my children was easy. If you ever forget, the label on the lumber support waistband tells you how to adjust the seat based on your baby’s height, or you can consult the Ergobaby website, which explains it in detail.

My only gripe is the neck support. I’m split on it because on one hand it’s a superb support for baby (especially in comparison to fabric carriers I’ve used before) but using it makes it hard to check on your little one from a bird’s eye view.

I found myself popping to the mirror a few times (the side view is great, which is comforting as there’s no danger of mouths and noses accidentally being covered by the material) to check on a sleeping Pippa or Max, but I imagine that as I get used to wearing the carrier I’ll be more confident here.

How comfortable is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier for your baby?

Having used a fabric sling for around 3 months with my twins, I was concerned they may not be happy about a new carrier. But I needn’t have worried. Both went in happily on the first attempt. Max’s first turn was outward-facing.

He seemed super-comfy and loved his high vantage point (especially when his older brother, Oscar, was doing a bath bomb experiment on the breakfast bar)! Meanwhile, Pippa was the first to test the Omni Breeze for a nap and I’m delighted to report she was snoozing within 5 minutes.

As I mentioned, the lightweight SoftFlexTM Mesh is all about comfort and breathability, providing as much airflow as possible whilst keeping the 2 of you cool and dry. Other than this, the hood (tucked in a small pocket underneath the head and neck pillow) gives protection from wind and sun, as well as shade for snoozing and privacy for breastfeeding.

There’s a foldable, padded headrest for total comfort and cosiness. And for teething babies, you may want to invest in Ergobaby’s dribble bibs to give your little chomper something to chew on.

How comfortable is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier for you?

I’m not going to lie – I LOVE this carrier when it comes to comfort! I just can’t fault it. The ergonomics aren’t just about baby – mums, dads and other carers have been carefully considered too. The waistband has lumber support to protect your back and keep you comfy (wear it high and tight with a newborn and drop it as your baby grows).

The carrier felt light and ‘barely there’ every time I wore it. Baby’s weight felt evenly distributed and afterwards, there was zero leftover pressure from carrying, even after a long session with Big Max!

How many different carry positions does the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier offer?

The Omni Breeze has 4 carrying positions – inward-facing for newborns and up; forward-facing for 5 months plus, and hip/back carrying for those aged over 6 months. At just 4 months, our 2 lack the head control for the latter but we took full advantage of the other options and were very pleased with both.

How easy is it to adjust the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier?

Colour-coding and Velcro – this is one happy mama! Ergobaby has made adjusting the sling for your growing baby super simple. Sliders let you swap from inward to outward facing (they’re a little stiff and needed a bit of a shove but I reckon it’ll loosen up with use), whilst adjusting the ‘seat’ part is done using Velcro tabs on the waist-belt based on your baby's height – along the red lines for a baby between 20-24in, yellow for 24-28in and blue for those more than 28in.

The shoulder straps are a simple pull mechanism, like a backpack, so you can tighten and loosen with ease whether or not you’ve got a baby strapped in. Top marks here, Ergobaby.

Is it easy to do other things while wearing the Omnio Breeze carrier?

Getting things done while letting baby sleep is an absolute winner – and as a mum of twins, I’m 100% on board with this. I tried loads of household tasks, from cooking and cleaning to sitting and chilling to playing with my son, as well as experimenting with being out and about on walks. I felt safe, comfortable and unrestricted at all times.

Obviously, I was aware of a baby stuck to my chest, but I carried on relatively normally and used both hands at all times – no anxious need to keep a hand on baby. It’s also worth noting that breastfeeding on the go is a breeze with the Breeze (couldn’t resist!) This report comes directly from Ergobaby, though, because as a bottle feeder, I couldn’t personally test this part. Take advantage of the hood for privacy then simply loosen the shoulder straps a bit and slightly lower the baby to your chest.

How well does the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier fit?

Both Simon and I tried the carrier. It was fast and easy to convert it from my size to his – just a case of adjusting the straps and lumber support, in the same way you would if you were altering the size to account for you adding another layer of clothing when using the carrier outside. So simple.

What age range is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier suitable for?

Branding itself as “The All-In-One Carrier for every stage of baby’s development,” the Breeze is suitable for newborns (providing they meet the minimum weight/height requirements of 3.2kg and 20in, and it’s worth noting you don’t need an infant insert for this) as well as your toddler. The maximum weight it’ll take is 20.4kg.

Do you like the look of the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier?

Yes, I think it looks fab. I’ve got a relatively small frame and it’s not clunky on me at all. The breathable materials make it look super-lightweight, which it is. I love my sage green carrier but if that’s not your cup of tea you’ll find it comes in 11 other shades, from sleek Oynx Black to bright Sapphire Blue to pretty Pink Quartz.

How would you rate the buckles/straps?

I found the buckles, straps and buttons on this baby carrier great. They’re easy to use, even with my stiff fingers, and I feel like they’ll last – the Ergobaby Omni Breeze has high-quality vibes.

What do you make of the quality of the fabric/materials?

Like the mechanisms, the rest of the Omni Breeze carrier feels top quality. I’m confident this will last me my twins and if I were having more children (which I’m absolutely not, by the way!) it’d do them as well. I’ll certainly be passing this on or selling it on.

How easy is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier to clean and keep clean?

If you’ve got a reflux-prone little one, you’ll be pleased to hear the Ergobaby Omni Breeze is machine washable. The brand recommends unfastening all buckles and then washing it in a pillowcase at 30 degrees before air drying. Stick to a mild detergent (no bleach, perfumes, etc). We gave it a whirl and can report it was all good.

What are the safety features of the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier?

I love the smart safety features of the Breeze. Out for a walk at dusk? There are little reflective lines on the carrier to keep you feeling safe. They’ve added double locking buckles too, just to make sure a toddler can’t accidentally open the buckle when they’re facing outwards.

Does the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier have any storage?

There are 2 stretchy, deep side pockets (handy) and a detachable zip purse with an inner zip and stretchy divider. Even the construction of this purse section has been cleverly thought about to maximise the storage options! Clearly, there’s plenty of space for your keys, phone and pennies, leaving your hands free if you’re carrying your baby outside.

How does the Omni Breeze compare to other carriers you have used?

When we had Oscar, I was unfamiliar with carriers and avoided them, largely due to the fear factor. This time around, I had to get involved. I sought out local experts who let me test different options, explained clearly how to wear them and gave me peace of mind in terms of safe babywearing (I would wholeheartedly recommend all new parents do this.)

In the end, I went for a stretchy wrap-style sling, and Simon has one too. We’ve been big fans of them to date and the twins took to them immediately, so I thought it’d take a lot to turn my head.

But I’ve totally fallen in love with the Ergobaby Omni Breeze. The support for baby is leaps and bounds beyond that of the fabric sling. Sometimes throughout a nap or walk with the wrap, the position of the baby or fabric can move and go unnoticed, resulting in a less comfy or safe ride for baby. The Breeze, on the other hand, feels so secure, like I don’t even need to check it during the wear because it’s so well-fitted and robust, yet lightweight.

The fabric sling puts the onus on you to set it up correctly every time and if you tie it a little high or accidentally twist the material, you’ll feel it. Beyond that, I do feel a lot of the weight pressure is on the parent – the baby feels like a weight hanging off you. The Breeze is at the opposite end of the scale – Pippa and Max felt almost weightless, probably due to the thought put into the design of this carrier. Wearing them feels stable and even, and not like something you know will hurt later on.

I should say, though, that timing could be an issue in my preference for the Ergobaby carrier over the fabric wrap. I know the wrap-style is particularly good for smaller babies, so it’s perhaps the case that my twins are getting to an age where a more structured carrier suits better.

What’s in the box?

The Ergobaby Omni Breeze carrier and 2 sets of instructions.

Are there any additional accessories you can buy?

The carrier is great as it is, but Ergobaby offers a suite of add-ons to maximise comfort and ease of use. You’ll find accessories like the drool bib (£19.90) and practical weather covers (from £49.90), as well as spare parts, on the brand’s website.

Who would the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier be most useful for?

I think all parents keen to explore the world of babywearing would be pleased with the Ergobaby Omni Breeze. But, with the breathability USP and handy hood for sunny days, I can see this carrier being popular with those who like to be out and about in all weather. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this to first-time parents who haven’t carried before – the intuitive nature of the Breeze makes it far from intimidating and the instant comfort for both of you makes everything feel just right.

Is the Ergobaby Omni Breeze worth the money?

Coming in at £184.90 on the Ergobaby website, this is a premium product, but I reckon it just about merits the price tag. This isn’t your average carrier. It’s an ultra-hardworking, super-comfortable, cleverly designed babywearing option that feels like it’ll last forever (and if for some reason it doesn’t, the ErgoPromise lifetime guarantee has your back).

If you want a quick fix for 6 months, this isn’t the one, but if you’re expecting a baby or are in the newborn phase and expect to wear your little one until they’re a pre-schooler, it could be a worthwhile investment. Plus, get your timing right and you may be able to take advantage of a special offer.

Where can I buy the Ergobaby Omni Breeze Baby Carrier?

It is available from Ergobaby, Mamas & Papas and Amazon.

undefined

MadeForMums verdict

Ergobaby sell the Breeze as a product that’s “merging airflow, comfort and growing needs” with “every detail designed for your life” and I must say, it’s ticking a whole lot of boxes. For those looking for something for newborn through to 4 years, it’s a winner – if you’re happy to spend a bit of money, of course. The carrier makes your baby feel almost weightless, plus it adapts to you and your baby’s shape; the functionality is super and it’s a breeze (there I go again!) to put on and adjust. And from teething solutions to breastfeeding privacy to being seen in the dark, the designers have thought of everything and more with the Omni Breeze.

US brand Infantino has it covered when it comes to baby accessories, with their range featuring everything from baby walkers to carriers, activity playmats, teethers and more. Stating that they aim to keep both parents and little ones happy with their products, Infantino has recently launched the Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier, which is hoping to do just that.

With an RRP of £70, it’s one of Infantino’s more expensive baby carriers, although still reasonably priced compared to other similar products on the market. Plus, it's widely available online for a heavily discounted price of £14, making it great value for money.

It is suitable for babies weighing 7lbs to 26lbs (around 2 years old) and is designed for your child to be held parent-facing only. It boasts features of a more structured carrier, such as a padded waist belt, adjustable straps and being ‘easy’ to put on, while the stretchy mesh fabric wrap, support panel and cuddle cover enable you to keep baby close and snug in the way traditional wrap carriers do.

About our parent tester

Mum-of-3 Helen Faccio tested the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier with her new addition, 1-month-old son, Alessio. Helen wore the carrier as they went about their day-to-day business including the school run, watching the kids’ football practice, supermarket shopping and carrying out the usual household chores.

What were your first impressions of the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier?

Opening the box, the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier is made from soft, stretchy material which feels nice to the touch and looks to be of good quality. The dark grey design is gender-neutral both for the baby and the wearer. As someone who has not used baby carriers very often before, it initially looked quite complicated to put on, with various components to fit and adjust. It left me wondering how I would be able to put it on with my baby without any help.

How easy was the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier to put on with your baby?

The Hug & Cuddle baby carrier comes with picture-led instructions which I did not find very easy to follow by themselves, although admittedly, this could be due to my lack of wrap wearing experience. I had to watch a video on the Infantino website which demonstrated how to put the carrier on, and this made the instructions much clearer.

With the instructions in front of me, video fresh in my mind and using a mirror, I managed to get the carrier on and my baby inside without assistance from anyone else, even on my first time of trying. It was much easier to put the carrier on for future occasions and soon became second nature.

How do you fit the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier?

The main points for fitting the carrier are:

Place the carrier over your head.

Wrap Velcro waist belt around you and secure with the clasp.

Pull down back support.

Put your baby in the wrap, left side first, then the right, then do up the buttons.

Pull up the panel, making sure baby’s legs are not trapped inside, then pull the straps on either side tight.

Adjust the seat to ensure your baby is in the ergonomic ‘M shape’ position.

How easy is it to take your baby out of the Hug & Cuddle Carrier?

The trickiest part of putting on the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier is ensuring your baby is in the correct position in the wrap, but taking my baby out was much easier. After loosening the front panel and pulling the fabric wrap down a bit, I could lift my baby out easily and safely.

Is the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier ergonomic?

One of the best features of the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier is how ergonomic it is. The wrap and panel sections enable your baby to be carried in the recommended C shape position, as per TICKS guidelines, while you can also adjust the fabric seat along the waistband to allow them to have their hips and legs in the M position, no matter how big or small they are.

With my newborn, I found it easier to pull the seat fabric inwards to make the seat narrower while not wearing the carrier and then adjust as needed once he was snug inside. The adjustable belt and straps mean that your baby is held close and tight to you, while the wrap parts and cuddle cover offer head support where needed.

How comfortable is the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier for your baby?

My baby seemed to find the carrier both comfortable and comforting. He soon nodded off every time I had him in the carrier, both when wearing it inside and outside the house. He was even kept snug even at the side of a football pitch. His head was supported by the wrap sections, and I could easily ensure he was safe by seeing that his mouth and nose were not covered or obscured by the fabric.

Would you say the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Carrier was comfortable to wear?

Finding it difficult to carry my baby’s weight has put me off baby-wearing in the past, but I found the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier’s design very effective in this respect. At the time of testing, my baby was still very young at around the 10/11lb mark, but it was very comfortable to carry him in, even for more than an hour at a time. I could walk to school and back and stand on the sidelines watching my eldest play football with no problems.

The belt takes much of the pressure and weight so that your back and shoulders do not get tired or achy, while the extra lumbar support and adjustable back support helps to distribute the weight and pressure more evenly. These features made such a difference compared to carriers which just have shoulder straps. The only thing that I had any issue with was how the wrap fits around your shoulders. It is supposed to cap your shoulders according to the photos, but I found that it wouldn’t always stay in place unless I made a conscious effort to keep pulling it down over my shoulders.

How many different positions does the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier offer?

Unfortunately, the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier is only designed for your baby to face you on your chest. Unlike other carriers, a baby cannot be world-facing, which might be an issue for older children who are more aware of their surroundings.

How easy is the baby carrier adjust?

The Hug & Cuddle baby carrier is very easy to adjust once you are familiar with it and know which bit does what. The waistbelt has a Velcro fastening and adjustable clasp so it will fit a range of sizes easily, from petite to plus size. The back support is very easy to position by simply pulling down on the tab, while the straps on the seat panel are easy to both tighten and loosen as required by pulling and adjusting.

How well would you say the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier fits?

As well as fitting my frame quite comfortably, my husband – who is substantially taller and wider than me – also tried out the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier and, thanks to how easy it is to adjust, he also found the carrier comfortable to wear. Minus the issue with how the wrap wouldn't always stay in place on my shoulders, overall I’d say it fitted well.

Is it easy to do other things while wearing the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier?

Due to the secure way the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier holds your baby close to you, I found it easy to do other things while wearing it. I did a supermarket shop and had no problem reaching or bending to get things from shelves and could also manoeuvre my vacuum cleaner around the house no problem.

The Infantino website states that the carrier can also be used while nursing, but I did not breastfeed while wearing it – not only do you need accessible clothing for this, but it seemed easier to just take it off and take your baby out if he needed feeding. I am not entirely sure how they envisage that you can feed while wearing it, as it seemed to me that your baby is held too high on your chest for this anyway.

According to Infantino, what age range is the Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier suitable for?

Infantino states that the Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier is suitable for babies weighing from 7lbs up to 26lbs, from newborn to between 1 to 2 years old – depending on the size of your baby. However, I feel that this style of carrier is more suited to younger babies due to the fact your baby can only face you and is held so close. I am not sure a wrigglier, more active nearly 1 year old would be as easy to carry as my newborn or would tolerate being parent-facing and relatively restricted in their movements for long.

How would you rate the fastenings on the baby carrier?

The clasp, buttons and buckles of the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier are made of good quality plastic and are easy to use. They are a contrasting coral colour which also makes them easy to see and be aware of when you are getting to know the features of the carrier.

What are the key safety features of the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier?

The ergonomic design and the fact the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier can be easily adjusted to your baby’s size gave me confidence that I could carry my baby without causing him discomfort or harm. In particular, the adjustable seat to support the 'M' positioning is a great feature which addresses one of the main concerns of babywearing – that of causing any potential or inadvertent damage to your baby’s hips. It is an excellent design in this aspect.

Would you say the fabric is high quality and durable?

The Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier is made from a 100% polyester fabric which is soft, stretchy and breathable – offering your baby ultimate comfort. It seems to be durable and of a good quality. The grey colour is nice and neutral, giving it a unisex appearance and making it comfortable for both mums and dads to wear.

How easy is the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier to clean and keep clean?

The Hug & Cuddle baby carrier is made from easy-to-clean material and is machine washable which is handy for any milk spit ups etc. While my son did not throw up any milk on the carrier while he was in it, the fabric also seems easy to wipe clean. The washing instructions are to machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and drip dry. I washed it on a short ‘refresh’ wash at 20° and it washed up well.

Is the baby carrier easy to transport?

Yes, the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier folds up into a little built-in pouch that can be stored in a changing bag. The instructions also detail how to fold the carrier and insert into the storage bag, which is useful for travel e.g. in your suitcase or car, or for keeping it clean and tidy at home.

How does the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier compare to other baby carriers you have used?

I found the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier much easier to put on and wear, plus it felt more secure for both myself and my baby than a ring sling. It was also more comfortable than our classic BabyBjörn carrier thanks to the support offered by the waist belt, which vastly reduces the pressure from your baby’s weight on your shoulders. As its ‘hybrid’ name suggests, the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier takes the best elements of both traditional baby carriers and slings, and amalgamates them in its design.

What’s in the box?

Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier

Carrier storage bag

Instruction booklet

Now you’ve tested it, what would you have wanted to know before purchasing the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier?

It’s important to note that the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier can only be used parent-facing. Despite the maximum child weight recommended at 26lbs (approx. 2 years old), the fact it can not be used in different positions such as world-facing or on your back could put a time limit on how long your baby will use the carrier for.

Who would the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier be most useful for?

As the Hug & Cuddle baby carrier can be used for a baby weighing just 7lbs, this is a good product for parents of newborns and young babies, particularly those who require being held for a large proportion of the time, because it keeps them nice and close to you. I am not sure it is the most suitable carrier for older babies because you cannot wear it with your baby facing outwards, which as they grow up, many children prefer.

Is the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier worth the money?

The Hug & Cuddle baby carrier has an RRP of £69.99, putting it in the mid-price range of baby carriers. I think this is a fair price for what is a good quality and easy to use product, especially if you have a newborn and are planning on doing a fair amount of babywearing in their first year.

However, this product does not offer the longevity or versatility that other similar baby carriers on the market have, meaning that if your child no longer wants to be parent facing, you’ll have to invest in another carrier in the near future. That being said, the baby carrier seems to be on sale at a very discounted price of £14, which does make it excellent value for money.

Where can I buy the Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier?

It is available from Amazon.

undefined

MadeForMums verdict

The Infantino Hug & Cuddle Adjustable Hybrid Wrap Carrier takes elements from both structured baby carriers and fabric wraps to create a baby carrier that is easy to put on and adjust, comfortable to wear and is ergonomic. In my mind, it encompasses the best of both worlds, being quite stylish in appearance, while enabling me to carry my baby close and securely – exactly like a hug. It is a good choice for parents with a newborn or young baby, at a price that makes it affordable for many. However, it might not be the best option for babies over 1 year old due to the fact it’s parent-facing only and doesn’t offer any further carry positions.

About our parent tester

Emma, a journalist with over 10 years of experience working in regional and national news, tested the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier with her 4-month-old daughter Melody, walking the countryside of Essex, pottering around the house and even testing the limits of comfort and strength during the Boxing Day sales at intu Lakeside Shopping Centre.

What are your first impressions of the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier?

The SoftTouch™ Cotton fabric and glorious slate blue colour are a joy to behold from the outset. It feels soft and snuggly in your hands and even better on your baby. It is completely adjustable in all directions and the handy zip pocket at the front makes keeping all your small-but-mighty essentials (phone, keys, dummies!) very easy, without the need to take additional bags out with you. It seems light and airy, with no excess weight.

What age is the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier suitable for?

The carrier is suitable from birth up to 20.4kgs/48 months, which makes it one of the most durable carriers on the market. Being able to use it with a newborn eliminates the need to spend many a frustrating hour on YouTube after a whole 10 minutes’ sleep, desperately trying to follow instructions on how to somehow envelop one’s tiny newborn into a magician-handkerchief-up-the-sleeve length of fabric that allegedly turns into a sling at some point.

Do you like the style of the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier?

I love it. It is simple and straightforward, looks incredibly stylish and attractive and is available in 7 gorgeous colours – Slate Blue, Pink Quartz, Sage Green, Pearl Grey, Midnight Blue, Onyx Black and Black Leopard if you favour a print. Two side pockets and a detachable front zip pocket mean you can take as much or as little as you need out with you – in other words, the bulkiness of the carrier is up to you.

How does the Ergobaby Omni Dream compare with other market-leading baby carriers?

At £209 the BabyBjörn Harmony is even pricier than the Omni Dream, not available in as many aesthetically-pleasing designs and colours and is not suitable for breastfeeding. Nevertheless, BabyBjörn as a brand are synonymous with ergonomic baby-wearing and the Harmony has been lauded as simpler by some parents to put on once ‘assembled’, which could be considered an advantage. The Tula Explore, £174.90, and Tula Lite, £94.90, make more budget-friendly alternatives, but lack the trademarked fabric technologies of the Omni Dream and Omni Breeze carriers.

What’s the difference between the Ergobaby Omni Dream and the Omni Breeze baby carriers?

In short – the fabric, and some colour options. The Breeze is so called because it is made with SoftFlex™ Mesh fabric as opposed to the SoftTouch™ Cotton that the Dream is made of, which allows for better airflow and works to keep both the wearer and the child cooler and more comfortable. Consequently, it changes the look of the carrier slightly, as it has the mesh fabric on the outer lining. It is available in 9 colours including Olive Green, Graphite Grey and Blue Lavender, and costs the same as the Omni Dream at £184.90.

How easy is the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier to take off and put on?

Incredibly easy! It is intuitive and fully adjustable and comes with very clear instructions.

How easy is it to get your baby into the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier?

At first, fairly easy, and once you are established with the carrier, very easy indeed. The first few times you will probably find you need to make adjustments to the straps, then the more suited to the shape of you and your baby the carrier is, the easier it will be to secure your baby into it quickly and efficiently. It is very easy to get your baby into the carrier and secure them on your own – ideal for single parents or if your partner is at work and you fly solo during the day.

How many different ways are there to carry your baby in the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier?

All the ways! The Omni Dream is suitable for front, back and side/hip carrying, both front-facing and inward-facing when worn on the front. It is completely flexible and adaptable to your growing child.

Can you breastfeed while wearing the carrier?

Yes! This is a big advantage that the Ergobaby Omni Dream has over a few of its competitors.

Does the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier support your baby’s hips?

Absolutely – the bucket seat and lumbar support ensure that baby achieves the desired ‘M’ shape with baby’s legs, hips and buttocks for hip safety.

Is the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier comfortable for you?

Very much so – with some minor adjustments to suit you personally, it can be worn with absolutely no pinching, bunching or anything of the sort. The only issue I found with the carrier was that I did get extraordinarily sweaty in it, even in December and January, without a coat. Some of this may be post-pregnancy hormones rebalancing themselves or it could be that I am just a bit of a Sweaty Betty for one reason or another, but if sweating is a problem for the wearer, possibly the Ergobaby Omni Breeze would be more suitable. I did note this did not seem to be a problem for Melody, who seemed very comfortable regardless.

Is the Ergobaby Omni Dream baby carrier comfortable for your child?

She seemed snug as a bug as we walked around the shops, trudged through the mud and pottered around at home – and fell asleep within a few minutes of being in it. If there is higher praise from a baby to a carrier than that, I don’t know of it!

How does the Ergobaby Omni Dream compare to other baby carriers you have tried?

We own the Tula Explore and find that the 2 carriers are very similar in many ways, such as ease of use, comfort etc. The Tula comes in a massive selection of colours and prints but lacks the soft touch of the Omni Dream and the detachable front pocket. It is slightly cheaper at £174.90. We have also used the Amawrap sling, £44.99, around the home, but I found that it was very intimidating to do up and even though I practised a good deal (with a willing teddy bear during pregnancy even), I just couldn’t get on with it, and neither did Melody. It takes 10 seconds or less to clip her into the Omni Dream carrier, and it just made life easier.

Does the baby carrier seem durable?

It does, yet light and stylish at the same time.
Californian company Osprey started out designing functional and high performance backpacks for all kinds of outdoor pursuits. While this is still very much what they do, the brand has also branched out into designing high quality child carriers. A member of Osprey’s Poco child carrier series, the Poco LT is the lightest offering from the backpack specialist. At 2.3kg, it’s more than 1kg lighter than its other models – and cheaper, too. Perfect for taking children to places where a buggy isn’t suitable; or ideal for those who want to take their little ones on longer walks and hikes; the Poco LT offers many features that make it the perfect hiking companion. Available in 4 colourways – blue sky, starry black, tungsten grey and deep teal – the Poco LT is a great accessory to help you and your child enjoy the great outdoors together. At £300 it's certainly an investment – almost 3 times the price of the LittleLife Range S2 child carrier, at £120.

Tested by

A mum of 3, Victoria McDermott tested the Osprey Poco LT with both her baby and toddler on walks around her village, up and down hills, across farms and on longer strolls in woodlands.

What were your first impressions of the Osprey Poco LT child carrier?

I was amazed at just how much Osprey has managed to pack into its newest Poco model. Despite being both roomy and spacious for your child, the frame enables it to fold to an almost flat position, which is great for freeing up boot space. The brand has also not skimped on features, and I was pleased to note a large zipped storage compartment at the bottom, meaning you’re not left rummaging around for wet wipes.

What do you think of the style and design of the Osprey Poco LT child carrier?

Babywearing expert Katy Blundell says: “This feels like a really sturdy, well-made carrier, with good quality buckles and zips.” I personally liked the smaller zipped compartment higher up on the carrier, as well as the fact it has pockets in the hip belts and space for a hydration reservoir. I was also impressed with the Poco LT’s integrated sunshade with UPF 50+ rating.

How easy was the Osprey Poco LT child carrier to set up?

On taking the Poco LT out of the box it was pretty much ready to go, aside from pulling open the cockpit and securing some buckles in place. However, this isn’t as simple as it sounds. Fellow MFM Parent Tester Chantal, who also trialled the Osprey with her 19-month old, found the clips hard to conquer, saying “it took a lot of trial and error to get all of the different parts to the correct placements, and I found it time consuming to have to stick and unstick all the Velcro when trying to make any adjustments.”

How exactly do you set up the Osprey Poco LT child carrier prior to using?

Before attempting to put the carrier on with your child in you must adjust the hip belt, back panel, harness and torso length to suit your body shape and height. Once ready you can use both handles at the front and rear of the child cockpit to lift the child carrier and place the frame onto your slightly bent knee. Next, slip your free arm through the tightened and fitted harness strap, grab the handle in front of the cockpit with your other hand, and lift the carrier up onto your shoulder. Then, while still holding the shoulder strap, lean forward to stabilise your child and child carrier on your back. Let go of the handle in front of the cockpit, slip your free arm through the shoulder harness and slide the carrier onto both shoulders.

How easy is it to put the Osprey Poco LT child carrier on with your baby inside?

I struggled to get to grips with putting this on with either my baby or my toddler in it. I found it difficult to manoeuvre and swing onto my back without swinging my children around too much. The first handful of times I had to ask my husband to help me lift the carrier onto my back and then help me to tighten the straps, as I found it tricky to know just how tight I would need everything until my child was in it. However, I eventually discovered that if I put either of my children into the carrier while it was on a raised platform (such as my car boot or the kitchen table) then I could then thread my arms into it, lift it onto my back smoothly and buckle myself in.

What is it like wearing the Osprey Poco LT child carrier on your back?

It took a little getting used to, as the only carriers I have used in the past have been sling-type contraptions such as the BabyBjorn brand. With the Osprey, your turning circle when wearing is much wider than a sling-style, and I felt very alarmed that I was going to bang my little one's head when I was moving through doorways on my way out of the house. However, once on the road the fact I had a wider load on my back than usual wasn’t a problem, and after an initial 10 minutes of acclimatising I felt confident to tackle hills, grassy areas and longer walks.

How comfortable did your child appear in the Osprey Poco LT child carrier?

My husband and I used the Poco LT with both our 10-month-old baby (9kg) and 3-year-old daughter (14kg) and each spent some time entirely comfortably in the spacious cockpit that was sufficiently padded. They both loved being up high and enjoyed peering around at their surroundings, although I fear that long journeys would be uncomfortable as there is no footrest, leaving their feet dangling. I’m not alone in this trail of thought; reviews on Amazon also agree it would be awkward for their child to have their legs dangling for a period of time.

Is the Osprey Poco LT child carrier comfortable for you to wear?

One thing to note is that it is extremely important to make sure that you fit this product correctly. In my haste to get out and use it for the first time I didn’t take long enough fitting the carrier to my body. This meant that it tugged a little on my shoulders, pulling my centre of gravity backwards and making it feel uncomfortable after only a short walk. I also found that the straps began to dig into my shoulders, while the carrier was quite heavy for my 5’2” height. MFM Parent Tester Katy, meanwhile, agreed with my opinion that “it was heavy and uncomfortable for [her] body frame”, however, reviews on Amazon are varied, from it being extremely lightweight to “too heavy to carry for more than 5 minutes.” Personally, I found the waist strap not very long, so it could cause issues for someone with a larger frame than myself, even though the brand states that the hip belt provides a 24-48” range.

How durable does the Osprey Poco LT child carrier feel?

This is a well-built item that I believe would last a long time, as the material is thick and the Velcro has a high teeth density. Made from Bluesign approved durable 210-denier nylon diamond, the fabric of this carrier has been produced with minimum impact on the environment. The back panel is also constructed using Airscape, a mesh-covered extra deep foam, which provides maximum ventilation where contact with your back might get a bit sweaty.

What weight and size is the Osprey Poco LT child carrier?

The Poco LT weighs in at 2.3kg, more than a kilogram lighter than the original Poco at 3.5kg and the 3.6kg Poco Plus. Catering for families on the go, this carrier can collapse down compactly, with a zip-away compartment for the harness and hipbelt meaning they won’t get tangled or caught on anything in transit. When folded the Poco LT’s dimensions are 77cmx34cmx10.5cm, considerably smaller than both the Poco and Poco Plus. This makes it much nimbler and easier to take with you on planes, trains and cars.

What age range is the Osprey Poco LT child carrier suitable for?

The Osprey Poco LT is not suitable for children under 6 months, and it is advised that it shouldn’t be used if a child cannot sit upright unassisted or weighs less than 7.25kg. However, it should last a while, taking up to 18kg of weight, and I’m pleased to report that both my 10-month-old baby and three-year-old daughter were comfortable and secure, with definite room to grow.

How easy is it to keep this baby carrier clean?

The Poco LT is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth, and due to the breathable and lightweight material I found it dried very quickly too. The pack itself is not machine washable, and Osprey instead suggest cleaning it in a large sink or bath with mild detergent and warm water. The drool pad at the front also isn’t removable for washing, so is not great for dribbly teething babies – or hungry toddlers in constant need of snacks, as it could get messy very quickly.

How does this compare to previous models of the carrier?

The Poco LT is the third model in the series and has been designed to be more accessible for everyday use. It’s also easier to pack and travel with than Osprey’s other 2 Pocos, which are geared more towards hiking and backpacking.

Does the Osprey Poco LT child carrier feel safe?

Despite going on some rocky walks and muddy trails I didn’t once fear that either my toddler or baby were going to fall out of the carrier, as they were safe and secure at all times. This was helped by the double halo harness that Osprey uses for the Poco LT, with front facing arm loops which are buckled and tightened. The carrier also felt snug and sturdy on me, held tightly in place by the harness and hip belt.

Are there any other features you like about the Osprey Poco LT?

Possibly my favourite feature of the Poco LT is the built in sunshade with UPF 50 rating. Keeping the younger members of your family safe from the sun is of huge importance, even more so when they are high up on your back and in full glare of UV rays. We also felt entirely comfortable taking our baby off our back and resting them on the floor in the carrier during an impromptu lunch date, with the secure kickstand that locks firmly into place. Our baby slept happily while we ate, with no concern for her safety.

How well does the Osprey Poco LT child carrier work on public transport?

The Poco LT has been designed specifically with a smaller footprint, aimed at making it easier to use in tight spaces like shops and busy streets. I did however feel that it was still a large bulk on my back, and was very wary of turning and knocking into anything while wearing it. Furthermore, due to my lack of expertise taking the carrier on and off by myself, I wasn’t confident enough to take it on public transport. However, those who are a little more used to wearing large-framed back carriers should find the Poco LT’s profile the perfect option for use out and about in cities and towns.

What’s in the box?

Osprey Poco LT

27 page instruction manual

Are there any additional accessories you can buy for the Osprey Poco LT child carrier?

Poco raincover (£30)

Now that you’ve tested it, what would you have wanted to know before buying the Osprey Poco LT child carrier?

The only thing I did find very difficult was bending down while wearing the Poco LT. This would make it very hard for me to use alone when walking with my other children.

Who would the Osprey Poco LT child carrier be most useful for?

This carrier is best for parents wanting to take their children where buggies find it difficult to go, and is a brilliant option for those who want to move on from a front-facing sling.

Is the Osprey Poco LT child carrier good value for money?

At £300 this is Osprey’s cheapest Poco model, however, it’s still quite an investment to make, with cheaper options available on the market. Having said that, you do get a lot, from the hidden compartments for storing all your essentials; a supportive seat and strap for your baby; an integrated sunshade; a kickstand; and external hydration access. It all depends on where you plan to use it. If, like our additional MFM Parent Tester Chantal, “you intended to wear it while travelling around the city, to do your shopping and use public transport, then it is too bulky, complicated, and therefore expensive in my opinion.”

How does this compare to similar carriers?

Where can I buy the Osprey Poco LT Child Carrier?

Available at Osprey and Go Outdoors.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Poco LT is a high quality baby back carrier packed with features. Osprey has managed to provide parents with a slimline and packable design complete with all the functionality you could wish for. With your child up on your back you can explore the world together and it is really lovely to share a perspective together for a change, although it doesn't come cheap.

British brand Littlelife boast of having 25-years experience and a good reputation when it comes to making tried and tested products for the great outdoors, with their Acorn baby carrier offering parents comfort and closeness to their child in the process. The LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier has the unusual benefit of being suitable for use from birth until up to 3-years of age and can be worn on both the back and front. With an RRP of £79.99, it was also shortlisted in the best baby carrier under £100 at the MFM Awards 2022.

Tested by

Miranda Janatka, is a new mum to a 10-week-old (12 lb) baby, who tested the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier on pavements, paths, uphill, in woodlands as well as inside a restaurant, based in a town on the edge of countryside and parkland.

What were your first impressions of the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier?

This carrier rolls out of its waterproof storage bag ready to go without fussing around for set up, other than adjusting the straps to suit the wearer and choosing one of two seat positions. Having been using a couple of slings recently, which are soft and comfortable but require a degree of body origami, this was satisfying in that it was fuss-free to set up and learn how to use. It rolls up tight and fits back in the bag easily, but then is bulky to carry around, a bit like a small sleeping bag.

How easy is the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier to put on with your baby?

It took a little while to figure out how to put it on with my baby and I found it was easier to have someone else on hand to pop them in once one side was done up and one left open. The instructions were good but I also watched a manufacturer’s video to aid the process, which helped me to understand further about the adjustable seat that offers a position for newborn and then a bigger child up to 3-years-old.

To put on the carrier, you have to close up one strap and then pop it on as you would a jumper, putting arms and head through holes, before fixing and tightening the strap at the back. I would close up one side of the two front straps before popping my baby in and then closing up the other side.

Parent tester Sophie - who tested the Acorn carrier with her 7-month-old baby - also noted: “It has a lot of clips/buckles so it is more complex than my usual carrier to put on, however, the instructions were really easy to follow and the extra clips made it feel really secure for baby. Once I had done it once it was easy to put on the next time.”

How easy is it to remove your baby from the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier?

Taking my baby out was just as easy as getting her in, with a small baby it is much easier if they are wearing a pram suit, which as it was winter when I tested this, was something we were putting on anyway. I felt it created more bulk and made the baby a bit sturdier to pop into the carrier. I did feel confident putting my baby in once I had a feel for where the straps fitted as you cannot see them and so have to feel around.

Would you say the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier is ergonomic?

Once I tried out both of the seating heights, I found one which best fit my baby and found her hips were supported and in the recommended ‘M’ position. The LittleLife Acorn Carrier has been acknowledged as a ‘hip healthy’ product by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute and follows the TICKS guidelines. With this in mind, it was easy to ensure that my baby was correctly positioned. The head support is useful but took a bit of trial and error with the seat position to work out how it was best fitted.

While my daughter was cosy in her pram suit she was very comfortable, however without it, her face would lean towards the strap and rest down against the carrier leaving temporary marks on her face after a while when sat down.

Parent tester Sophie also stated that her baby “seemed really happy and well supported” when using this carrier, adding: “He looked comfy however, it did keep making him lean to one side, no matter how much I adjusted it!”

How comfortable did you find the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier?

The Acorn baby carrier was very comfortable for me and felt like wearing a very good quality rucksack. It is padded well on the shoulders and fitted nicely around the waist. As it is so comfortable it is easy to forget how long you have been wearing it, a mixed blessing as the mother of a newborn baby may carry the baby longer than she should without noticing until later.

I could not feel any pressure on my back or shoulders while or immediately after wearing the carrier, and did not feel pain on shorter walks, just some lower back pain after wearing it for a 2-hour walk.

However, parent tester Sophie did not find this carrier comfortable, stating: “The waistband is very comfy however the way that the carrier clips at the front means it pulls on the shoulders at a funny angle and I found that the more I was wearing it, the more uncomfortable it became. I would definitely not use this for a long walk again, possibly just for use in the house. I am a regular baby carrier user, and my usual carrier does not pull on the shoulders in this way.”

How many positions does the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier offer?

The carrier offers 3 positions:

For a newborn, the baby would be placed in a high position facing the adult

The same position can be used for a child 4 - 15 months old, this would use the lower position on the carrier. From 4 - 36 months the child can be carried forward facing in the lower position

Finally, a child 12 - 36 months of age can be carried on the adults back facing forwards if preferred.

I wore it with my baby facing me as she is still very young. Her dad also enjoyed using the carrier and we found it easy to adjust the straps to mean we could both use it. It fit both my partner and I well, he is a bit broader and taller than me, and was equally comfortable wearing it as well as swapping it between us.

To reposition it, you would need to undo straps, but you can tighten them up again easily. I thought the strap around the back was particularly clever, you pull each end of the straps which are quite long to tighten it. You would struggle to breastfeed your baby while wearing this carrier, but I did manage to eat lunch wearing it, using one hand. Doing chores around the house was also comfortable to do.

According to LittleLife, what age range is the Acorn Baby Carrier suitable for?

The manufacturer states that it is suitable from birth to 3-years-old, 3.6-15kg. I would be a bit intimidated using it on a newborn as it is quite bulky (which is where a soft material sling may feel more appropriate) but from 6-weeks old to 3-years, I can see it would work well. In order to accommodate an older child, you simply unzip the inner section to extend the fabric.

How do you rate the buckles and straps on the Littlelife Acorn Baby Carrier?

The buckles were very sturdy and made of a good quality plastic. The front two buckles are a special shape that were easy to clip on and felt safely shut. The nylon straps also felt robust, with a reviewer on Amazon stating that they have “no loose threads”, with another customer stating: “The clips and strap adjusters are easy to use and again, stitched well into the fabric.” Another reviewer added that “the head rest doesn’t have any visible stitching or sharpness (just the smooth back of two press studs) so ensures it is comfortable for your baby”.

How easy is the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier to clean?

The carrier is made from cotton with the manufacturer recommending that it is best to hand wash the product, but some reviewers on Amazon also gave it a gentle wash in the machine and air dried it after. One reviewer also added: “It is easy to keep clean, sick and dribble wipe off easily”, which is a bonus for any baby product.

What are the safety features of the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier?

The Acorn baby carrier features comfortable air-flow cotton fabric for the shoulder straps which helps to distribute the child’s weight evenly, with the wide hip belt also offering extra comfort for any parent. The material also felt very strong and durable, which I was impressed by. The straps are fully adjustable and the carrier also has a built-in head support for young babies, helping to keep even the smallest of children secure. The easy-clip buckles have been tested to comply with British Standards and it is acknowledged as ‘hip-healthy’ by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

How does the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier fare on public transport?

I found using public transport fine when wearing the Acorn baby carrier as my daughter was on my front and felt safe and supported. I wasn’t worried about bumping her or needing to be aware of more space around me. This carrier was much more sturdy and comfortable than others I have used previously, and felt much better for my back when standing up than a sling. I also really enjoyed being able to travel and walk with my baby pram-free. When it comes to the convenience of use on public transport, a reviewer on the LittleLife website also stated that it was ideal “for those moments where I need two hands free” but could also be used at home when her son was feeling a little restless.

How does the Acorn Baby Carrier compare to similar products made by LittleLife?

Compared to the other child carriers that LittleLife makes, the Acorn can be used from birth and seems to be a more usable kit for everyday use and walks with a child under the age of 3. Their other child carriers - the Ranger, Adventurer, Traveller, Cross Country, Freedom and Voyager - are all suitable from 6 months up until 3 years old and offer families a range of different purposes with the Ranger suitable for short walks to the Voyager, which is aimed at those who want a carrier for long days out or holidays.

The Acorn baby carrier is also the cheapest in their range and only comes in a plain black colour with grey trim, where some of their other products vary from grey to blue.

Compared to other baby carriers you have used, how did you find using the LittleLife Acorn?

The LittleLife Acorn baby carrier felt really sturdy and strong compared to other carriers and wraps that I have used. I have tended to use the Moby wraps, and by comparison, this feels much better on my back, both at the time of wearing and afterwards. The slings I have used are soft and comfortable but require a degree of body origami.

This was satisfying in that it was fuss-free to set up and learn how to use, especially when it came to adjusting the straps by myself. It also rolls up tight and fits back in the storage bag easily, but I did find it a bit bulky to carry. It was like wearing a good quality rucksack, with broad straps, I felt very happy that my baby was safe and secure, more so than other carriers and wraps that I have used before.

How does the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier compare to similar products on the market?

My baby was born in November so this was fine, but may have been less comfortable in the summer with a small baby wearing lighter clothing. I found that when my baby was wearing it without her pram suit, her face would lean against a strap. I would also want to know about some of its safety features, especially that the International Hip Dysplasia Institute has deemed ‘hip-healthy’.

Who would you say is this baby carrier most useful for?

The best target audience would be those parents who want a carrier for regular short walks with their baby, with it easy to adjust the straps and switch between mums and dads. It would also suit those families with more than one child under 3-years-old as it can be easily adjusted, as well as giving three options of travel - child facing forward, facing back and child carried on adult’s back - meaning it is an investment for those who may not have a huge budget.

Would you say the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier is worth the money?

Yes, I would say this baby carrier is definitely worth the cost thanks to its ease of use, comfort and safety features. Compared to more expensive child carriers in the LittleLife range, the Acorn carrier seems to be a more usable kit for everyday use and can be used from birth, up until the age of 3, meaning you are getting a lot for your money.

Parent tester Sophie also added: “The carrier ticks all the boxes you would want on a carrier. It feels really well made, great quality and looks more expensive than it is.”

Where can I buy the Littlelife Acorn Baby Carrier?

It is available from Littlelife, Amazon and Blacks

MadeForMums Verdict:

On the whole, I really liked the LittleLife Acorn Baby Carrier and feel it is one of the best carriers I have tried with my daughter. It is a great combination of good value for money, easy to use and comfortable, with the safety credentials to match.

While my turquoise material Moby wrap looks a lot nicer to wear, the Acorn carrier might not be the prettiest on the market, but it feels a lot easier on my back and my baby also feels more secure.

It has lots of options to adjust and is easier than the Ergobaby carrier that I have previously used and it felt secure to wear and was easy to loosen and tighten. I found it really comfortable around the back, shoulders and hips, despite some other reviewers feeling that it puts a strain on your shoulders. The carrier feels very solid and the stitching shows that it is well made and the material is really nice and sturdy.

With all of these elements wrapped up in an affordable price tag, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend - what more could you want from a baby carrier than perhaps some more aesthetically pleasing colours!

Joie has been a respected brand on the baby circuit for some time, and is well-known for its high quality and durable car seats, pushchairs and cribs. However, the Savvy is Joie’s first entry to the baby carrier market, impressing with its sleek design, smart fastenings and long-lasting materials, and four carry position options. Silver winner in our MadeForMums Awards 2022 Best Carrier Under £100 (although a recent price increase now puts it at £105), it impressed both our judges and parent testers, offering great value for money.

Thick, padded shoulder straps and support at the lower back put comfort for the wearer at the forefront, while lightweight cotton has been chosen to be super-soft and breathable against you and your baby’s skin. Another standout feature of the Joie Savvy are the trademarked autoclick magnetic shoulder buckles, allowing you to quickly and easily secure baby by yourself. At £105 it sits in the middle of the market price-wise, with the more premium Ergobaby Omni 360 All-in-One costing £164.90, and budget Infantino Flip Advanced 4-in-1 costing just £30.99.

Tested by

Lara tested the Joie Savvy Baby Carrier with her 7-month-old twin girls Sydney and Lyla, on short walks to the park, as well as longer outings to the beach.

What were your first impressions of the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

As I unpacked the Joie Savvy it looked a little on the bulky side, with a lot of straps and buckles which initially seemed daunting. Due to its size, it’s definitely something you need to plan ahead to use, as you can’t fold it up and slide it quickly in your bag like other baby carriers I’ve used.

Were the instructions for the Joie Savvy baby carrier easy to follow?

At first look they were a little confusing, especially as I’ve never used a carrier like this before. At the front of the booklet are a set of illustrations, then need to locate the written instructions further along to help explain what the drawings mean. This meant I kept having to flick back and forth between the two to work out the carrier’s set up.

What age range is the Joie Savvy baby carrier is suitable for?

Joie recommend the carrier is used from 3.5kg to 16kg, which is around birth to 3 years old. The instructions list the four different carrying positions and the age/weight range these are suited for, which I found very helpful. My girls are 7 months old, but because they arrived 7 weeks early, they are slightly small for their age. I used the facing in position, which is recommended for 4 months and above (6.5 – 14kg) and the facing out position for 6 months and above (9 – 14kg), which suited them well.

What are the safety elements and features of the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

The Joie Savvy Baby Carrier features two harness covers which are soft, padded, washable pieces that Velcro over the buckles to protect your little one from the carrier’s harder surfaces.

How easy is it to put your baby in to the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

The first few times using the carrier, I needed some help to get everything strapped and adjusted in the right place, as the side buckles initially seemed fiddly. However, once I got the hang of the instructions, I found that putting either of my daughters in securely a breeze! You start by putting the shoulder straps on and fasten the buckle that joins them between your shoulder blades. Next, you attach the buckle that passes around the lower back, picking up your child and placing them in position. You then attach the magnetic shoulder buckles, and then the waist buckles, in place. I found the last two buckles a little harder to do, especially as my daughter was wearing a padded snowsuit at the time. Initially it felt too tight, but I soon got used to this – and it actually provided me with more confidence that my daughter was safe and secure.

How easy is it to adjust the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

Adjusting the Joie Savvy is super-easy, as you simply pull the straps to tighten and push back through the buckle to loosen. Each strap has a long length to accommodate your size and shape, plus I liked that the straps also have an elasticated loop at the end, meaning you can roll them up and pull the loops around to hold in place. This means you don’t have to deal with lengths of strap trailing behind you, as it’s all neatly tucked away.

How easy is it to take your baby out of the carrier?

Very. There are four buckles to undo, all of which can be done quickly with one hand.

Did you feel the Joie Savvy baby carrier is ergonomic?

The Joie Savvy has been certified as ‘Hip-Healthy’ by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, and my daughters were noticeably supported in the ‘M-shape’ position, which promotes healthy hip and spine development. What’s more, the carrier also supported their spines in their natural position.

Did your child appear comfortable in the Joie Savvy Baby Carrier?

Both of my daughters seemed to enjoy being in this carrier. When facing outwards they loved looking around and seeing the world from a different perspective, and while facing in to me they fell asleep quite contentedly. I could see my daughters’ faces at all times and they never got upset!

How comfortable was the Joie Savvy baby carrier for you as a wearer?

Overall, I would say it’s very comfortable. The padded straps meant my baby’s weight was spread evenly, with no digging in under my arms or added pressure. After a longer walk I felt slight pressure on my lower back, but for shorter wear periods I really enjoyed using this carrier.

How many different positions does the Joie Savvy baby carrier offer?

There are four different carrying positions to take you and your baby from newborn to around 3 years old. Following the manufacturer’s guidelines, I tried out two positions, which were facing in and facing out. I personally preferred having my daughter facing me when she was tired, as it meant she wasn’t distracted by the outside world and was settled enough to fall asleep. I think as my girls get bigger they will prefer to face outwards, so they can have a good look around.

How easy is it to swap from one position to the other?

To swap positions from parent facing to outward facing is very simple, as you only need to adjust the buttons at the front.

Is it easy for you to do other things while wearing the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

Unfortunately, you can’t breastfeed in the Joie Savvy, as the positions don’t lend themselves to this position. I did feel comfortable doing chores where I was more upright, such as hoovering and making lunch, but I preferred to wear the carrier while out walking to get some exercise; or to take my older children to school.

How would you rate the buckles, straps and buttons of the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

All of the buckles and straps are durable and substantial, and I particularly liked the autoclick magnetic buckles on the shoulder straps. They attach and undo easily, and you don’t have to worry about trapping yours, or any little fingers, in them.

How would you rate the quality of the fabric and materials of the carrier?

The silky cotton fabric and materials of the Joie Savvy are very durable – I don’t have any concerns about this carrier lasting until the girls no longer need to be in it. It’s very soft but feels very sturdy, too.

How easy is the Joie Savvy baby carrier to clean?

Cleaning this carrier is easy – simply pop it in a mesh bag (I didn’t have one, so I used a pillowcase instead) and put it in the washing machine on a gentle 30 degree wash. It took a while to dry because of the thick padding on the straps, but it cleaned up well. The two bibs that button on the front are a handy addition, allowing you to remove these to clean any dribble or sick without having to wash the whole carrier. This is an essential addition in my opinion if you’ve got a teething baby!

How does the Joie Savvy compare to other baby carriers or wraps you have used?

I’ve previously used the Baby K’tan wrap and Connecta Baby Carrier, both of which had their own pros and cons and which are very different to the Savvy. I personally prefer a wrap style of carrier for when babies are newborn, as a lack of buckles makes it feel more gentle to use, plus they easily fold up to store in your changing bag. However, I prefer the Joie Savvy now that my babies are a bit bigger, as I want something stronger, sturdier and more secure for our outings. I felt the soft fabric used for the main body of the carrier and the straps of the Savvy help make that transition from wrap to carrier much easier.

What’s included?

Joie Savvy baby carrier

Instruction booklet

2 x bibs

2 x harness covers

Can you buy any additional accessories for the Joie Savvy?

There are no additional accessories available for this baby carrier.

Now that you’ve tested it, what would you have wanted to know before buying the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

I would have liked to have known that it’s quite bulky when not being used. Storing the Joie Savvy and taking it out with you to use isn’t as straight forward as it is with other carriers, so that’s something to bear in mind.

Who would the Joie Savvy baby carrier be the most useful for?

The Joie Savvy is ideal for mums and dads who like to get out and about walking, whether in the city or at the beach or park. If this isn’t your first child it’s a great way of giving you a free hand to tend to other siblings, and it works well on the school run when pathways can get busy.

Do you think this baby carrier is good value for money?

Once you consider the comfort it offers for both wearer and baby – and its longevity – I would say it is well worth the money. The four different positions it boasts, taking your baby from newborn to around 3 years old, soon justifies its price.

How does it compare to similar carriers?

Where can I buy the Joie Savvy baby carrier?

It is available at John Lewis, Boots and Winstanley's Pramworld.

MadeForMums verdict:

Overall I was impressed with the Joie Savvy baby carrier. I liked the design, colours and features, as well as the fact you can use it from birth to around 3 years of age. I quickly got to grips with getting my daughter in and out, and the magnetic shoulder buckles are a particularly appealing feature. Once you have these clicked in place you feel secure doing up the remaining buckles knowing your baby is safe. It is also an easy carrier to use by yourself, meaning no extra set of hands are needed.

Swedish brand BabyBjörn has been around for half a century and is synonymous with ergonomic and adaptable carriers. The Harmony is priced at the higher end of the market at a hefty £190, but it can be used from newborn up to 3 years, in several positions on your front and back, so it does offer serious longevity.

The carrier is easy to adjust as your baby grows, using carefully thought-out poppers, zips and straps. It’s made from a unique breathable, supportive and quick-drying mesh, with soft jersey material around the buckles to protect your baby’s face and wide padded straps and belt that make it comfortable to wear. As you’d expect from a brand like BabyBjörn, it also looks great.

Tested by

Emma tested the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier, along with her partner Tom, over two weeks with their newborn baby son in south London. They used it on buses, trains, and the tube in the city, as well as for walks in local parks and the Hertfordshire countryside.

First impressions?

The carrier looks attractive with a classic, ergonomic design and comes in anthracite, navy or silver. It has numerous loops, buckles and zips so you’ll need a little time to work out what everything does, but it has been cleverly thought through to ensure maximum comfort, functionality and safety in a range of positions to suit your child.

How easy is the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier to put on and put your baby in?

The carrier is easy to put on but not entirely intuitive, so you’ll need to read the instructions. MFM parent tester, Karly, agreed, adding: “Initially I found the paper instructions difficult to follow, but found the online tutorial clearer. The first few times putting the carrier on was challenging and required an extra set of hands, but once I’d got the hang of it it was very easy to use.”

To put it on, slip the straps over your head and arms, buckle the waist belt at the back and fasten the shoulder straps. You can then either slip your baby in from above or undo the safety buckle and head support buckle on one side for more space.

Is it easy to put your baby in the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier?

Yes, although you’ll need to ensure you’ve adapted it to your baby’s size/height. We initially missed that we could unzip the leg holes around the seat to make it narrower for our newborn’s short legs.

Place your baby facing you with their legs on either side of your body and arms through the armholes. Buckle the safety strap and attach the newborn leg straps if you’re using them. Adjust the head support to cradle your baby’s head while leaving room for them to breathe.

How easy is it to take your baby out of the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier?

It requires some practice to get your baby out by yourself, but after a few tries, I felt confident and could do it quickly. There are a few things to do – you need to unfasten the head support buckles and leg straps if you’re using them, then you can lift your baby out without undoing the shoulder straps. Or you can open the front, using the side buckles – possibly a better option with a sleeping baby you want to stay asleep!

Is the carrier ergonomic?

The BabyBjörn Harmony is definitely an ergonomic carrier, with leg straps for babies smaller than 10lbs (4.5kg). You can adjust the shoulder straps and wear the waist belt higher up to get your baby in the correct TICKS position in which you can kiss their head.

The Harmony is acknowledged as “hip friendly” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. It supported our little one’s hips so he could sit in the ‘M’ position and we were able to zip the seat from the inside and unzip the leg holes to make it narrower for a newborn.

The head support can be adjusted by pulling straps to the best position to support your baby’s neck, leaving sufficient space for their nose and mouth for unobstructed breathing. However, I felt concerned that our baby’s chin kept sinking on to his chest, making me wonder if the carrier was entirely safe for a newborn, although it’s not a concern any of our other parent testers encountered. To read more about the TICKS guidelines, click here.

How comfortable is the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier for your baby?

Our baby cried a little during the initial adjustments but was soon deeply comfortable in the carrier and fell straight asleep. The buckles and other parts around your baby’s head are covered in jersey fabric and the head support can be adjusted using poppers in three different positions so you can easily keep an eye on your child. My only concern was that his head tended to sink forward towards my chest, which made me worried about his breathing, and I kept using my fingers to lift up his chin.

MFM parent tester, Karly, was very impressed with the comfort the Harmony offered: “My baby was very comfortable in the carrier. She felt secure at all times and was happy to be carried for long periods of time. There were no signs on my baby of straps digging in or anything like that, which would also suggest she was comfortable and well supported.”

How comfortable is the Harmony baby carrier for you?

This is a comfortable carrier, although I felt the internal harness between wearer and baby made it a little less snug for a petite mother and newborn. The shoulder straps and waist belt are wide and well-padded and can be tightened for a closer fit. There’s also a padded back support, which is extremely helpful if you suffer with lower back pain. The belt can sit at your waist with a newborn and around your hips as your baby gets bigger, helping relieve the pressure on your shoulders and back. MFM parent tester Karly said, “the straps and back support made this baby carrier the most comfortable I’ve tried.”

How many carry positions does the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier have?

Four in total. The carrier can be used in a facing-in position with the waist belt higher up your torso for newborns, from a minimum weight of 7lbs (3.2kg) and height of 21 inches (53cm) up to around 4 months. From 4 to around 36 months or 62-68cm to 100cm (24.4-26.8 inches to 40 inches), up to a maximum 33lbs (15kg), you can adjust the shoulder straps and waist belt to sit lower down around your hips in the facing-in position. From around 5 to 15 months, when your child can hold their head up unaided, you can switch to a facing-out position. From 12 to around 36 months, up to a maximum 15kg and 100cm (33lbs, 40 inches), you can use it as a back carrier.

How easy is the Harmony baby carrier to adjust?

The BabyBjörn Harmony is simple to adjust once you understand all the features, and you can easily loosen and tighten different parts of the carrier using various buckles, zips and poppers. All our parent testers agreed that it was a quick and easy carrier to adjust once you’d got the hang of it.

A newborn zip inside the seat can be closed for babies from 53-68cm (21-26.8in), while two zips on the outside of the seat can be adjusted to change the seat width and allow your baby to move their lower legs freely. The zips can be locked in any position. Leg straps on both sides must be attached for babies smaller than 4.5kg (10lbs) to reduce the size of the leg openings to fit their legs snugly and stop them slipping out.

The waist/hip belt can buckled lower or higher at the back, lifting the outer edge of the buckle if it’s too tight. A head support can be adjusted by pulling straps and using poppers to three different positions to support your baby’s neck, leaving space around their nose and mouth for unobstructed breathing.

To adjust your child’s position, slide your hands into the carrier and place them under the bottom and thighs – lift them and move them towards you so that their knees are in a high position and they can move their lower legs. Keep a hand under your baby while adjusting head support, then adjust shoulder straps.

Is it easy for you to do other things while wearing the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier?

It is relatively easy to do chores while wearing this hands-free carrier. However, with a newborn, I did feel worried about his head slumping on to his chest so I had to keep a close eye on him and occasionally lift his chin with my hands.

It was too tricky for us to get Arlo’s head to the correct angle for breastfeeding with the inner harness between mum and baby, but mothers with older children or more confidence with feeding should be able to do it. Babywearing expert, Katy Blundell, added: “My criticism would be that this style of carrier has fabric/straps between baby and care giver, meaning it would be very difficult to breastfeed baby whilst using the carrier.”

How well does the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier fit?

The carrier was a better fit for my partner than for me as it’s a little bulky for a petite woman and the internal harness meant our baby was less snug against me. However, it was comfortable on my shoulders and back for fairly long walks, since the shoulder straps and waist belt can be tightened and loosened using buckles on the sides and the adjustable padded back yoke provides excellent support.

What age range is the Harmony baby carrier suitable for?

BabyBjörn says the carrier is suitable for newborns from 7lbs (32kg) up to 36 months old and 33lbs (15kg). This seems broadly appropriate although our newborn son, who weighed 7lbs 15oz, seemed a little small for the design. We also tried it with a friend’s 18-month-old and he seemed comfortable although felt a little heavy, so you would need to be strong at the upper end of the recommended size bracket.

How easy are the buckles, straps and poppers to use?

This BabyBjörn carrier features multiple high-quality buckles, straps and poppers, which makes it extremely versatile. They are easy to use once you know how but aren’t entirely intuitive – you will probably need to read the instructions to understand all the different ways you can adjust it.

Is the fabric on the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier durable?

The BabyBjörn Harmony is made primarily from polyester with cotton and elastane. The mesh is soft and breathable and the jersey details feel gentle against baby’s skin. The carrier seems robust and durable and all materials meet the criteria for Oeko-Tex Standard 100, Class 1 for baby products, meaning they are safe for baby’s skin and to chew on.

MFM parent tester, Alannah, really rated the Harmony’s fabric, adding, “I think it would be cool enough in summer as it has the mesh/breathable material.”

How easy is it to clean the Harmony baby carrier?

It’s super easy to keep clean and the mesh material air dries fast. The instructions advise machine washing it separately using mild detergent on a gentle, warm cycle, ideally in a wash bag. It came out looking as good as new. Just do not tumble dry, iron or use fabric softener or bleach.

Does the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier have any extra safety features?

Yes. The leg straps for babies smaller than 10lbs (4.5kg), zips in the seat and leg openings and adjustable shoulder straps and waist belt ensure you can get your baby in the correct TICKS position. The head support can be adjusted by pulling straps to the best position to support your baby’s neck, leaving space for their nose and mouth for unobstructed breathing. The Harmony meets the European safety requirements EN 13209-2:2015. I was concerned about the safety of using a carrier with a newborn but BabyBjörn’s experience and explanation of the safety features and how to use them gave me some reassurance.

How does the Harmony compare to other BabyBjörn baby carriers?

The Harmony is more expensive than other BabyBjörn carriers including the Move (£130) and the One/One Air (£175), but the Move can only be used up to 15 months and for front carrying. The Harmony also offers premium materials – it is made from extra-soft mesh with soft jersey detail around your baby’s face, while the One Air and Move use a more basic mesh and the One is made of cotton.

The Harmony offers three head support positions and can be adjusted horizontally across the back for comfortable baby-wearing. BabyBjörn also sells a Carrier Mini (£95) for the first year from 7-24lbs (3.2-11kg), offering extra snug closeness, which is simpler to put on, lighter and more comfortable for when your baby is small – but of course, it won’t last as long.

Is the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier suited to use on public transport?

Yes, it was great to use on public transport. It’s ergonomic and compact and I was confident moving around and getting on and off the train/bus. Sitting while wearing the carrier was also comfortable, so there was no need to remove it while seated on the tube – although I was worried about him slumping over while I was sat down so tried to sit as upright as possible.

How does the BabyBjörn Harmony compare to other baby carriers you have used?

We have also used the popular Ergobaby Omni 360, £164.90, which felt harder to put on than the BabyBjörn Harmony. You can put the Harmony over your head first, and then pop in your baby or take him out without removing the shoulder straps. With the Omni 360, you strap the carrier to your waist and then have to hold the baby in place while you do up the shoulder straps. You also have to reach behind your upper back to do up the strap, which is a little awkward. It is also easier to securely spin the Harmony into a back position while your baby is in it.

The Omni 360 has the advantage that it goes up to 4 years old and offers an additional hip carrying position. It also has the option to cross the straps, which makes it slightly more comfortable for longer walks, but is harder for an adult to fasten alone. The Omni 360 comes with a hood for privacy and sun protection, and a useful detachable storage pouch for small items. It is a little easier for breastfeeding as it doesn’t have the internal harness between parent and baby.

What’s in the box?

Carrier

Instruction manual

Are there any accessories you can buy?

Cover for baby carrier, £47

Teething bib, £22

Now you’ve tested it, what would you have wanted to know before purchasing the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier?

I’d have wanted to know about the inner harness between the wearer and the baby – this makes it easier to put on and take off at speed but also makes it less snug for a petite parent and could make it tricky if you’re less confident breastfeeding. I wasn’t convinced my newborn was suitably supported with his head off his chest – however, I think that issue applies to most ergonomic carriers of this style.

Who would the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier be most useful for?

This carrier would be most useful for people who don’t mind spending a bit extra for a comfortable and easy to secure product that will last for years, and stand up to regular use in a variety of positions as your baby grows. I feel it is most suited to taller parents and those who want a baby carrier that is simple and speedy to get on and off. It’s also a premium product that looks stylish and will satisfy those looking for reliability and longevity – perhaps for multiple children – featuring high-quality materials and numerous adjustment options to improve the fit for growing babies.

Is the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier worth the money?

At £190, this isn’t a cheap product, but it is durable, reliable and extremely comfortable. It is fairly typical in price for this style of ergonomic carrier and is so versatile it will last you and your baby for several years. You’ll have the reassurance that comes with buying from a well-known manufacturer and the breathable, soft materials will feel great for you and your child. I’d say this is definitely one of the best carriers on the market.

How does it compare to similar baby carriers?

Where can I buy the BabyBjörn Harmony baby carrier?

Available at BabyBjörn, Amazon and Mamas & Papas.

MadeForMums verdict:

A great quality carrier, well made with soft, breathable fabric, the Harmony really did impress. With plenty of features to get as comfortable a fit as possible for you and your baby, it’s as suited to long walks as it is to a quick trip to the supermarket. It’s a breeze to get on and off, once you’ve mastered the process, and it really does feel sturdy and durable – perfect if you plan on using it for more than one child. The internal straps do make it tricky to breastfeed while wearing it though, so if this is important to you you might want to consider an alternative carrier. Offering a choice of 4 positions, it’s got you covered from birth.
